I recently moved to North Carolina and plan on visiting Mertyle Beach and Columbia this week. Just wondering what some family friendly places to hit up.

I'd be interested to know more about this place as well.

Where are you staying in Columbia and what do you usually like to do? How old are your kids?

Was just going to drive down and find somewhere to stay. Will be taking our dogs with us. Our son is 3, mainly looking for things for him like a zoo, museum, places to see.
Would also like to find some good shopping places to take the wife. Also local food recommendation as well for somthing that is unique to the area.

The state museum, the capitol, the Vista (shopping/dining), Five Points (more shopping/dining, collegiate), Main St + Art Museum, and the university are all w/in 3 mile or so radius of each other. I'd suggest hitting the museum early, then driving into the Vista for lunch a mile or so away (not good to walk, all uphill), then driving and parking near state house and walking from there all over campus (the heart of campus is called The Horseshoe) and into 5 Pts. Main St is in another direction from USC/5 Pts but you could walk that way and explore a little after you've seen campus, etc. If you're there on the wknd there might be a Farmer's Mkt going on on Main St, not sure since I haven't lived in the area in awhile.
The football stadium is, famously, off-campus. You'd have to drive a mile or two to see that.
There is also a river walk + River Front Park near to the Museum in the opposite direction of the stuff above, if you'd like to explore that. Columbia is notoriously hot, though, so you'll want to limit your outdoor exposure, I'd imagine.
For eating try this link from the SC board: LINK

You should wait and take them to Myrtle during black bike week. It's a cultural mecca during that time of year. Oh, and go visit the Allen and Benedict campus while in Columbia if you are interested in art/literature.

Myrtle Beach has a good deal of stuff to do. If you are a golfer you will love it as there are a ton of great courses in the area.
