Are NFL players allowed to help college kids in the offseason?

Or is that a violation of NCAA rule?

Seems to me that this is something of value not offered to the general student population, so in principle I would think it is a violation. God help anyone who tries to answer the question with precedence from NCAA rulings.

depends on the type of "help" Im sure

Not sure. Whether they had a pre-existing relationship with the player plays into it too (see some NFL/NBA folks paying for siblings tuition).

It depends.
After Peria Jerry was drafted, he gave John Jerry a huge white Escalade with ridiculous rims on it, but it wasn't an NCAA violation because he was just buying his brother a truck.

What kind of "help"?
If AU is associated in any way with whatever you're getting at, I'll assume some sort of violation is taking place.

It mostly has to do with how the relationship exists.
If the only connection is through the NFL player being an alumni of the school and the college kid being a player at that school and it's not being paid for as part of a larger camp then it's probably a violation.

I thought about this exact question yesterday when Butch Jones said Peyton had helped his QBs a tremendous amount this summer. It sounds like it would be some ridiculous rule the NCAA would have, but surely Butch wouldn't come out and admit violating it if the rule indeed exists.

I am almost positive this happens on a routine basis with most schools. now if it were outside of the school, I could see it being one

That is where this came from. I was watching the replay this morning getting ready for work and when he said that, it popped in my head.
I would assume that if they are on the field assisting with workouts, it is a violation. My dad had said in the past that Calvin Johnson would come to Tech and workout but they would not let the WRs work with him.
I would think that current student interaction would be fine but I wonder if the NCAA would look down on Carnell Williams(who is at AU finishing his degree this summer) working with CAP or Roc Thomas.

I was thinking "on field workouts with an NFL professional" may not be allowed...since normal students dont get that benefit.

I think a lot of people get hung up on this. its not as strict as many believe

Yeah Exactly. Most students don't get access to the athletic weightroom and training area either.
