Looking ahead to Virginia....

I guess it's time to look ahead to who we will be playing the first game at Omaha. It sets itself up as a unique situation. I can't remember the last time we've played a #1 ranked team in back to back weeks.
Schedule :
We'd probably go up against their best pitcher, Nathan Kirby. He's a left handed sophomore with a 9-2 record and 1.73 ERA. He's a strike you out guy, he has 104 K's to just 25 walks. Teams have batted .182 off of him. Needless to say he's pretty good. They have a solid bullpen as well. They're 3 best relievers are a combined 18-1 with about a 1.50 ERA.
Hitting wise, they're a little bit weaker than us but so are 90% of the other teams we've played. They hit .281 as a team, they're best hitter being Mike Papi who hits .311 and has 11 bombs. As a team, they have a total of 33 HR's.
Fielding wise, they're one of the most solid teams in the nation.
A lot like Washington, they don't make errors. They field .982.
We've got our work cut out for us, but the key to this game will be how Ellis does. Obviously, we can't have him shite the bed like he did against ULL. If he can hold them to 3 runs or under through 7 innings I like our chances with our bullpen.
Schedule :

We played them last year in the supers and they were all mostly underclass men. I remember Papi and McCarthy both being able to mash. I saw they had 3 first round picks and 8 players drafted overall.

With TD Ameritrade being such a big park and with Ellis pitching hopefully that will eliminate the long ball. Unfortunately it will for us too, and we rely on that a lot sometimes.

Gonna be tough. First one should be a great game. We win that one and I really like how it sets up.

Nah, it will actually play to our benefit. Gappers all frickin day...I mean, all fricking 10 days

Couple that with our speed in the outfield.

Just gotta find a way... I fully expect a 3-2 or 4-3 type game... Defense will play a huge factor.

I see a 0-0 or 1-0 type game going into the 7th. Think it comes down to which bullpen shows up that game.

Hopefully we got all our WTF moments from our outfielders this past weekend + Monday.

Very similiar to washinton. Their hitting is inconstant but they pitch it a little better than UW. Going to be low scoring.
Trent matches up better and may get the start

Man I hope not... They do have several LH hitters but stick with what got us here... Ellis has been our Friday night ace all year... He's earned this start.

Nah...all we do top to bottom of our lineup is try to smash balls over the fence and we won't be able to score at all there
ED told me so..

Yeah I didn't say it wouldn't hurt our chances, just probably eliminate the long ball

It wouldn't be a discredit to Chris Ellis...but with that said, it is a tough call to decide on Game 1 pitcher.
If we win all three games, then no biggie.
If we win Games 1 and 2, but lose Game 3, then then whoever started Game 1 will have to pitch on 4 days rest.
If we lose Game 1 or Game 2 and win our half, that means both Ellis and Trent will have to pitch. So, whoever started Game 1 will pitch on 4 days rest, while Game 2 starter only has a three day rest.
In this situation, I would start Trent. His "stiffness" still scares me and I don't think he can pitch with only 3 days in between. But, he is a baller...and ballers ball.

This is what i was thinking. We have some pretty good speed in our lineup and they can certainly stroke gappers all day.

Ellis is officially starting Sunday

It's the right call... He's been our Friday guy all year... Bianco hasn't messed with a postseason rotation since holding Holleman back in 2004... Do what got you here.

Ellis has a bad taste in his mouth from his performance in LA. I'm sure being the competitor he is that he wants nothing more than a shot to redeem himself. I bet he bounces back and gives us another quality start like we're used to.
