I'm not going to ask you to do any more work than you already have (yeoman's job, fine sir); but I'd be interested in seeing what are the mean scores (in miles traveled) for each school.

I'm interested, but not interested enough to pull up the calculator & punch in the numbers myself.

i.e., who travels the farthest, who does the least amount of traveling (miles), etc.

You could probably add LSU to the list. They're close to not having a school within 300 miles as well.

That's see how many people didn't know the closest SEC schools were Alabama and State....

I was going to do the average for permanent opponents (division games plus one cross-division game) but didn't want to do anymore work

I know aTm/USC is the farthest at over 1000 miles and USC/Mizzou is one of the farthest. We get to make both trips every other year

I would be interested in seeing how this compares to the travel in the B1G and PAC.

Bama shows up on 10 of those SEC lists.

And that's the real reason why Saban wanted 9 conference games. To walk into a recruits living room and tell the family when he could be playing near their hometown and mudstomping their friends into oblivion.

Unfortunately... he didn't get it. And he continues to miss out on some top talent around the SEC because Momma wants to see her boy play (i.e. Clowney)

Clowney also wanted to play DE in college, not OLB

It isn't lost on me that the fan bases who have been most vocal about keeping the conference tournaments in places like Hoover and Atlanta are those fans who are affiliated with the schools that travel the least.

Coincidence? I think not.
Spoiled.

Not a lot makes sense about WVU to the Big 12 other than desperation.

Everyone on Tennessee's, OM's, and LSU's lists are permanent opponents. A&M's list is also composed of all permanent opponents but much farther out than the closest SEC opponents of the other three.

Also, at a distance of 314 miles, Mizzou's closest opponent (Arky) is the same distance as Tennessee's farthest (Bama).

LINK

Thread I made last summer doing exactly that, although mine is in straight line distances and not driving distances.

Wow--thanks! That's great! I copied your post and am pasting it here (since the thread was ultimately locked).

Also worth noting ... lists show all of the schools (obviously), not just divisional opponents.
