Also, realize that eating at the bar (or whatever they have at most restaurants) is a shorter wait than waiting for a table and you'll mean some other people that are doing the same. There are generally higher quality people at a restaurant bar than a bar bar and eating alone is always a good conversation starter, since they're likely doing the same.
