Thank you for proving my point.
Having a run-oriented offense means playing ball control. If you're going to play ball-control, you NEED a good defense (and special teams).

Yes, and primarily on the lines.
Don't know if you have noticed, but we are quietly building damn good lines on both sides of the ball. Got to lay the foundation good and solid and the rest gets easier.
I understand where they are coming from, equating what CBB wants to do (Real American Football) with similarity to what Bama and LSU does. Well, we are not wanting to 'be' just like Bama, or just like LSU - we are Arkansas and will develop our own identity, thank you.

And Bert is a defensive minded HC, the first we have had at Arkansas in over 50 years as HC.
The OC and staff members can be changed, it is unlikely Bert is going to change his philosophy of the game.

No you don't.
Arkansas won the West in 2002 & 2006 with smash mouth style on offense and a defense that was barely top 30 in the nation.
In 2013 Auburn won the West with a running offense and a defense that ranked 99th in the nation and 13th in the SEC.

Pittman is easily a top 2-3 OL coach in the country.

You can say that all you wan't, but there is only so much you can do from a One Back or I-Form set. No matter what "Identity" you want, you're going to run stuff that looks just like what LSU and Bama run, or a mix of both.

Anyone who thinks Arkansas being a primarily running team with a strong defense would be copying LSU or Bama is simply not familiar with the history of Arkansas football.

And if we lined up in shot gun, spread the WRs/TEs, then ran a basic offense based on the Wing-T, Dead-T, Single wing and Wishbone, it would be called innovative and groundbreaking.
Looks are not always what they appear.

I think you are saying that Arkansas being a primarily running team with a strong defense fits the profile of every Arkansas team since 1958 outside of the Petrino/JLS years, then yes I would agree.

Oh, sorry.
But at least he graduated high-school in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
But okay, you win, I'm wrong, Arkansas SUCKS when it comes to coaching talent.

It's ridiculous Arkansas has let all that coaching talent leave the state

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I was glad to see Arkansas going back to their roots by hiring Fat.

He did, he also quit Arkansas after not being able to cut it as a walk on WR.
Frank Broyles was born in GA, is still a legend in GT football (Back when GT football was kinda big deal), held a Orange Bowl passing record for over half a century, yet had absolutely no desire to coach anywhere else but Arkansas.

Of the ones he listed, only two had a direct link to the university, both coached at Arkansas, Switzer followed a former HS coach to OU and took over a few years later, Broyles retired and hired Lou Holtz over Switzer. Jimmy Johnson was passed over for Hatfield.
Both were passed over due to their cheating off the field, up until the Herrod scandal of the mid-late 90s, the only time Arkansas was caught committing any form of infraction was because of Jimmy Johnson when he was an assistant.

Petrino was successful because he played a completely different style that offset much of the talent disparity.
Petrino was 0-4 against Bama and 2-2 against Lsu.

So 3 in the top 20 in 7 years.
You're gonna need to be top 10-15 every year to do what Bama and LSU do.
And I love you using last year's "we almost won" with LSU's worst dline in years.
