Not in the context of Aggie-speak, they're certainly not interchangeable. A student would be politely corrected for making that error ("cheer" v "yell"); but like I said, it doesn't happen.

Several things were drilled into my brain my freshman year:
(1) Ags don't cheer (i.e., high-pitched squealing), they yell.
(2) Don't call the Aggie Band's Halftime performance a "show," it's a "drill."
(3) They're "basses," not "tubas" (starts with t.u.).
(4) Aggies don't ever boo; we hiss.
(5) it's very bad bull to ever leave a ball game early.

Just because you vote for a bunch a guys to be cheer leaders doesn't make It any less gay.....

It's kinda of sad actually because they are elected all the we'll knowing they will never lift or touch a female cheerleader.
