Cheerleaders jump around, perform gymnastics, use artificial noise enhances (e.g., megaphones & mics), cheer by themselves with their female partners, and generally wave around pom poms and stuff. It's a circus down there with the dance team, band, etc.

Yell Leaders don't do any of that. Their sole purpose is to wear solid white (so they can be seen on the sideline through the rows of khaki and camo), give the proper yell "pass back," signal--within seconds--and have the entire 12th Man ready to start the yell, only moments later. Oh, and to keep it all turnt up.
