But didn't you just say that Sherman only left offensive firepower for Sumlin? If the defense was good in Sumlin's first year, but terrible in his second, what does that imply?

He left him seniors like Sean Porter, Jonathan Stewart, and Spencer Nealy. Add in junior (and eventual early draft entrant) Damontre Moore, and yes, there was some talent for Snyder to work with. After that? Pretty much a wasteland. CB Deshazor Everett is good, and that's about it. Hell, in 2013, Sumlin had to convert a senior WR to start at LB. And at any one time, at least half of the front 7 were true freshmen.

If he can't wrap his brain around the two statements we just made (both the exact same just simpler and simpler) there is no use.

So I guess this statement you made is false:

quote:

Mike Sherman left a lot of offensive firepower to Kevin Sumlin, but almost none on defense.

The front 7 had one good game all season. The beatdown on a decent Vandy. Our secondary can be pretty good if the DL plays well. It all starts up front and if the DL plays poorly it dominoes to all other positions; LBs having to shed offensive lineman in order to make a play, DBs having to cover for 8+ seconds, etc.
