we were close to making it, but the team was not up to the standard of the past few years in terms of overall consistency and performance. As others have said at this point with Saban, if young players step up or if the team plays above themselves consistently, we will be in the mix for the national title.

Florida will test the Tide metal like nobody else this year and if Muschamp & company find the chink in the elephants armor that house of cards will fold up like a gypsy circus tent on Sunday.
Alabama may lose its top three coaches this year in an unmatched explosion of media chum or they could dominate.
Bama fans refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are riding into battle this season on a powder keg with a short fuse.
did you have to change your sheets after that dream?

McCarron and the WRs were 7th in the conference in passing. Ppg they were 4th in the conference and ton of that was attributed to defense/special teams scores. They were 6th in total offense. That's pretty average, slightly above if you give them credit for D/ST points.
Comparing Bama 2013 v. Bama 2012 is worthless.
This doesn't take into account the evolution of the conference as a whole. For instance:
2012: 445 ypg was good for 4th
2013: 473 ypg was only good for 6th
Also, using ppg game alone is an exceedingly weak argument:
2012: 38 ppg w/ only 2 D/ST TDs (1 KO return, 1 INT return)
2013: 38 ppg w/ 7 D/ST TDs (3 INTs, 3 KOs, 1 punt return)
As for the WRs, feel free to maintain that opinion if you'd like, but "delusional" is the word that comes to mind.
As for McCarron's Heisman invite, I've got no explanation other than it being a career appreciation nod. The NFL seems to think that was the case as well.
No back patting, more like showing how comical the responses were.
Yeah, your statistical evidence was so compelling and convincing.

I also have a connection to the FSU program, a guy who has seen Coker up close and personal like yourself. He took a different opinion than you though. He stated that his physical tools were freakish at times, but that he's certainly not a sure thing to succeed. We shall see. Keeping up with his performance will be one of the most interesting story lines of next season.

so basically the same as they were the year before? where is the great decline that was predicted?

Yet it is OK for you to use the 2012vs2013 metric in your next point,
"2012: 445 ypg was good for 4th
2013: 473 ypg was only good for 6th"

I didn't use them alone, I also used ypg
Bama improved offensively from the BCS Title team. Bama regressed on defensive side statistically. You predicted a down year due to offensive woes, you were 100% wrong.
quote:
Yeah, your statistical evidence was so compelling and convincing
Statistically evidence is not needed for this argument, it was very obvious that Bama did not falter due to a much weaker offense. I just threw in a few stats for fun.

Great decline? I said they would struggle with above average Ds. How'd they look against VT, Miss St, and OU? You don't need stats to know they looked atrocious. They got the best of LSU, but a few teams did that last year. Those are the 4 top 20 Ds they faced.

Not sure if you're serious with this statement.

I predicted the offense wouldn't be world beaters like the majority of Bama fans on this board thought. And they weren't. They barely finished in the top half of the conference in total offense. Are you suggesting that the O's inability to run the ball down the opposition's throat when needed or to protect the passer effectively when needed didn't directly contribute to the last two losses?

Damn son, you might want to call Saban with that intel and be sure he brings Nuss back. I'm sure he wouldn't have nudged him out the door if the offense was what Saban thought it would be.

Combined with Cyrus losing his 1st rd grade because the pass protection was piss poor. 600 yds of offense, impressive, but ultimately didn't get the job done. It's like the UGA offense v. Clemson to open the year. 500+ total yards if I'm not mistaken, but it was painfully clear that we didn't have the ability to run the ball without a healthy Gurley in the game. You could blame the D, but we knew coming into the year that it was unlikely we would win a game in which Murray failed to throw a single TD pass.

At this point the arguments on Bama's offense are comical IMO. Bama fans were largely disappointed in its performance starting with Week 1 last season and praised Saban for nudging Nuss out the door. Now there is a whole lot of defending Nuss and that offense.

Because they are easily the most talented team in the country. Period. And the coach is decent.

The thing that's comical in this thread is you and everyone else trying to argue and predict shite that they have no idea how is going to turn out. Bama has had a outstanding offense nearly every single year with Saban. Could be different this year? Of course it can. But it probably won't be. Bama has high preseason expectations every year because we have a good team every year.
Posted on 5/27/14 at 11:37 am to MenloDawg
We had the best statistical offense in the history of the school. Our offense was fine last year. This thread would be better if you focused on the defense.

Same logic doesn't seem to apply when sports analysts predict Bama's seasons, sort of like Notre Dame and Michigan.
