It's absolutely not a myth that we have a smaller bandwagon than schools of comparable prominence. We're smaller in both alumni base and fan base than most of our competitors, in some instances much smaller.

You can't account for "connections" to a school for obvious reasons. But, I estimate that the number of AU fans who didn't go to school at Auburn are far more likely to have lived in/near Auburn, have a family member or close friend who went to Auburn, etc. than Alabama fans.

Alabama simply has a much larger footprint. It is extremely rare that I meet an Auburn fan who simply woke up and watched AU on TV and decided to pull for Auburn. I meet Alabama and Georgia fans of that nature all the time.

It feeds on itself. You have more people and your reach is broader. There is a lot more exposure traditionally to Alabama than Auburn. Maybe that is changing, but traditionally Auburn is a much tighter knit school than Alabama, UGA, etc.

You have to add "have a weird connection to a former high school coach that now coaches hundreds of miles away at a rival institution but I'm still going to put their bumper stickers on my car" to the list, there are thousands of AU fans locally that fall into that list. I wonder how many of them could even find Auburn on a map, but love them some Gus.

Not what I said. I said it is a myth that AU fan base is mostly alumni. It's not. I would bet that AU's fan base is the smallest of the Big 6 because they share a low population state with another Big 6 school.

I can only tell you what the numbers are. If this is a new myth you want to create to keep this "real fan base" thing going, have at it because as we know if you can't prove something is false it must be true.

Sure you do.

I would absolutely agree that Auburn is a smaller fan base because they share a small state with the most successful program in college football. AU fans like to feed on this underdog status and they are correct in that.
