Major programs ranked by win pct.
Here is your list tweaked with pay
The 3 million and up club
4. Duke .704 = 9.7 million for coach K
7. Louisville .661 = 5.8 for Pitino
1. Kentucky .762 = 5.5 million for Calipari
3. Kansas .721 = 5.0 million for Self
NR Florida = 3.9 for Donovan
NR Michigan State = 3.9 for Izzo
6. UCLA .692 = 3.5 million for Alford
NR Ohio State = 3.3 million for Matta
The probably under paid
2. North Carolina .737 = 1.8 million for Williams (probably underpaid for crying so much)
5. Syracuse .693 = 1.8 for Boeheim
14. UConn .642 = 1.3 for former assistant coach
The underpaid and dead end schools (not winning)
8. St. John's .653
9. Illinois .651
10. Notre Dame .648
11. Temple .646
12. Arizona .646, Lute is retired
13. Utah .643, Rick is dead
15. Arkansas .640, Nolan is gone
16. Indiana .640, Knight is long gone
Notice the schools paying well are also in the hunt every year. 3 schools are getting banners on the cheap, but they are in the minority. Money certainly seems to separate the real winners from the other guys.

I just don't think we will ever see retarded coaching salaries in basketball.
And yet the highest paid coach is a basketball coach, not a football coach. Nick Saban makes about the same salary as 2 basketball coaches in KY and about half what coach K at Duke makes.

How can you classify historical winners as dead end schools?
Arizona has the right coach in place. Indiana will be back. Arkansas will be back. Utah will be back. Illinois is getting better again. Temple had 6 consecutive NCAAs before this year.
You've yet to prove a point, other than schools NOT paying $3mil or more to NEW coaches is NOT what this market drives.

Yeah a lot of people don't realize Knoxville is 6 hours from Memphis. I've had to explain to some people that Tuscaloosa is actually closer that Knoxville
And a long 6hrs at that. I swear even having to cross the TN/NC mountains, going from Knoxville to South Carolina seems to go faster than the trek from Knoxville to Memphis. Tennessee is a deceptively long state.

Plus it is hard to recruit Memphis when these kids are raised on Tiger basketball. Outside of Jarnell, who had an odd situation, I can't think of many Memphis products at Tennessee. I thought Austin Nichols was a lock for Tennessee though.Every time I talked to the kid he said he loved it there.
Yep even though the Memphis Tigers are a bit overrated overall (I mean in terms of an historic program) the city really does love basketball, promotes the Tigers, and has had many teams that are easy to fall in love with. Just like the distance is deceptive, Memphis 'feels' like a blue blood program that's always been a blue blood program but as they say in politics 'perception IS reality' so my hat's off to the Tigers and their PR team. Also they've had great product on the court in the modern era that adds to all that. Memphis is a good program that perception-wise seems even better (no knock either - I wish we would invest more in our program and get to Memphis' level and beyond).
As to Nichols... he's not the first nor will he be the last that gets stolen away at the last minute despite appearing to be a lock. That's where distance comes in - we just don't have the eyes and ears there to make sure a prospect stays steady. Distance is a bigger disadvantage than folks realize and makes it easy for Memphis to swoop in and nab a recruit from UT.
It also doesn't help that a lot of Memphis area talent comes from poverty or has family/friend that are working poor. Stokes' parents both have good jobs and can travel but for others if they don't play for Memphis their parents/family will never get a chance to see them play.

No coach has ever been hired for $3M a year. None.

If Cuonzo signs him (or Looney) he is still the Tennessee coach imo.

Pastner is a pussy on top of being a lousy coach.
Yep. I believe Tennessee-Memphis in 2008 (when it was #1 v. #2) is still the highest rated regular season game on cable of all time. Yet Pastner says Memphis is too good for us.
We lead the series all-time against them though.

Doesn't hurt that they get to play in one of nicest arena's in the NBA.

This made me think of some of the big name kids from here and your point is actually pretty damn true. Stokes was at the same private school I went to before he blew up as a basketball player.
When I was playing the big matchup was Leslie McDonald (UNC) vs. Elliot Williams (Duke) & Laurance Bowers (Mizzou). All private school kids, which made Nichols' decision all the more surprising.

It wasn't Pastner, although he still won't schedule us. It was Cal who said they would never play Arkansas because it would allow us back into Memphis to recruit.
We lead the series with them as well

Your whole flaw is thinking that the lifetime of the school has anything to do with it.
Florida sucked before Donovan, now it's blueblood. Pretty similar situation for the bluest of blues, Duke.
The past is not the determination of the future, a good hire will make good things happen. frick, Florida sucked in everything before 1990 and they're now awesome in both major sports.

Close, but the highest rated regular season basektball game is still #1 UNLV @ #2 Arkansas back in the early 90s.

No.
Florida has had one championship team, they won two titles, but they are not in the same realm as the blue bloods, there is more too that than having blue as a school color...

What is inaccurate about that statement?
What separates the rest of Donovan's time at Florida from Kruger before him?

fricking qualifiers.
I'll bring it back to topic.
Back then when one of the Mid-Majors had one of the top teams in the country, they went out and played other top teams from around the country.
What does Wichita St do? Schedule Alabama.

Meh. You think of recent great programs, Florida is there. Depending on your timeframe you can eliminate them for the blueblood thing, but the recent history is always more important than the lifetime, especially in a college sports world that continues to get bigger and more important in the sports world. I'll deny this in future shitfest, but Florida is the shite recently.
I'd take a couple of championships recently over no championships or old championships every day.
I think you would too.

It's a glorious troll.
Phil Jackson had one championship team in Chicago. They won a buncha ships, but just one team.
Florida has a great program. Could it end when Donovan leaves? Sure. Y'all know about that. It doesn't change the fact that they're a top 5 program right now. It's hard dealing with the here and now when you're looking in your rear view mirror. But people live in the right now.
