Are you kidding me? You're a fan of Tennessee and you don't know that Riverdale was a charter member of the SEC before they decided to discontinue football?

Most experts agree that 1990 is the best starting point.

If we use the LSU fan premise that football started in the year 2000, does that mean the only logo LSU has ever had is Toonces?

Not to mention Humphrey, Hilliard, Cobb, Webb, Hearst, Rhett, Alexander, Cannon, Brooks, Cribbs, Cadillac, Musso, Duce, Deuce, some dude from Mississippi St, Fullwood, Sinkwich, Emmitt, Faulk, Trippi, and Hokie MF'in Gajan.
Those are just a few RB's off of the top of my head. You cant ignore the greatness of the past because you weren't there.

Why 1950. I propose we just start at 2013. Clean slate. It's the only good option.

On the whole I guess I agree. Although it is a kinda fun factoid that the first great (NC deserving) college football season by a southern team was LSU in 1908

Vanderbilt from 1904 disagrees. Scored 52.7 PPG (most in college football for season) and only gave up 4 all year on the way to a 9-0 record. There is no national championship awarded, but I think it qualifies as deserving. Your statement is false.
We can't stop counting pre-1950s though or all of Vandy's 14 conference championships don't matter.

People forget that Vanderbilt was once in the discussion for the best football program in the South. Cheers to that history.
Anyway, if you go back and look I think my statement stands. To my knowledge LSU is the first Southern team named in any sort of declared National Championship - up till then it is nothing but Princeton, Rutgers, Yale, Harvard, Minnesota, and Michigan type schools from the northern US.
Vanderbilt deserved more recognition for sure though.

If you included retroactive selections, yes.
If not, it was Georgia Tech in 1928.

1914 - Texas
1916 - Georgia Tech
1917 - Georgia Tech
1919 - Texas A&M
1920 - Georgia
1921 - Vanderbilt
1922 - Vanderbilt
1925 - Alabama
1926 - Alabama
1927 - Georgia, Texas A&M
1928 - Georgia Tech
