He deserved his Heisman.
I'm not getting into that. For one, as a New Orleanian, I have always liked all the Mannings.

Knew he wasn't defensive only.
he won the award as a defensive player. I can assure you his defensive highlights were justified to win the Heisman, no matter what he did on ST and at WR..fwiw he has been long since forgotten as a WR

That's fine. I like Peyton too, but Woodson did more to earn his Heisman in 1997. Peyton Manning put up some great numbers, but could never beat Florida, threw tons of INTS, and can thank LSU for his chance at an SEC title.

Forgive me for splitting hairs but I'm almost positive he didn't return KOs. He def played a moderate percentage of snaps on offense though. In a big game @ Penn State he had a huge td on a post route from Griese.
I remember watching a lot of Michigan that year and he literally made a huge play in all their big, nationally-televised games.
A few I can recall:
ND - int
Penn st - receiving td
Mich st - unreal one-handed pick on the sideline
OSU - PR td

Yeah, he only had 4 kick returns in his career. The game he had against Ohio State won him the Heisman. Peytons last game before the Heisman ceremony Tennessee beat a horrible Vandy team 17-10.

Wouldn't Peyton's last game before the heisman have been the SECCG vs Aub?
Posted on 4/12/14 at 2:22 am to RebFeBrees
shite, I don't remember. Was it? There used to be a bye week before the SECCG. Because it seems like Nick Saban wasn't at the awards show in 2001 because he was prepping for Tennessee. You are probably right though, my memory is shite.

Regardless, our point stands that the pr td vs OSU sealed the deal.

Yeah no doubt. Manning was great in college, but Woodson was a badass in his own right.

That's what they call a "quarterback", cas. It's the guy always turning and handing off to your backs.

Marshall and Gurley come to mind for sec players.
Not sure why gumps are jabbering about Henry so much. Last year it was the same for yeldon and he had already accomplished a LOT more as a true freshman than Henry. A LOT.

I don't really like any of these guys to win the next Heisman. This can't be the entire list.

Yeldon has a better chance than any LSU player this year, or likely any year with Miles as coach. And that's not a crack on Miles. Just the way he coaches.
Youre crazy. Miles threw the ball 351 times with Mett in 2013 and our pass game was crap. That was before Cam's downfield passing offense. It took Mett only 296 attempts to reach nearly 3100 yards (10.41 ypa). So 350 attempts at let's say 9.5 ypa would be 3350, add in Harris rushing for about 500-600 yards, and you have a heisman contender. That's down the road (2015-2017) though.
Fournette would receive at least 18 carries a game in 2015. After Hill's "probationary period" of the first 3 games last year. He averaged 17 carries a game. He averaged 18 carries a game when they finally let him run his freshman year. Ware averaged 18 carries before he was suspended for one game in 2011. Ridley averaged 19 carries in 2010. If you are the best back, you will average 17-18 carries a game.
