Sure. But if the goal was to get them to not press charges, why kick him off the team when there's no charges pending.

This has already been covered. It's because a female student-athlete was raped by UM FB players, tried to get help for it from UM officials, was instead ostracized, ridiculed, ultimately kicked off the team of her sport and out of UM, and ended up taking her own life...

Yesterday, the independent council investigation of that sordid affair was released and UM was roasted and heavily criticized for their lack of proper response. To the extent that individuals will most likely be fired and lawsuits will most likely come forth...

Also yesterday, internet news reports and other UM blog "sources" report that DGB - once again, a UM FB player - attacked the victim, then efforts were made to intimidate the victim into not pressing charges, which apparently proved successful. DGB has also had a bad short history off the field at UM...

Missouri is in a very bad spot right now. With all the news about these events taking place all at once, it appears the UM AD is a shambles and a joke in keeping it's student-athletes on the leash. The football program seems to be the most culpable. Coach Pinkel couldn't have had any other recourse left to him after all that...

It just looks bad. The whole thing looks very bad. My position is, the victim CLEARLY told the police that she didn't wish to press charges - NOT BECAUSE THE ASSAULT DIDN'T HAPPEN - but because she felt intimidation and coercion from others, and felt she would be harrassed by others if she did press charges.

What blows MY mind is that the Missouri police listened to that, and then basically said, "oh alrighty then. In that case, just sign this form to decline prosecution. Thank you very much"....and then turned their backs on the victim and walked away....

Who the frick does that shite? Oh I know: a college town. Why wouldn't the police Dept. take it on themselves to proceed forward with charges anyways? Since they know for a fact that an assault took place.....

Let's rehash this again.

This poor young lady sought help from mental health professionals to deal with a rape. Awful.

It has not been shown that at any time did she tell her coach or any other athletic personnel or University personnel (who weren't healthcare professionals) that she had been a victim of a rape.

The failures of the University in investigation and reporting are all unfortunately subsequent to her death. She wasn't "kicked off the team." She was allowed to withdraw as she was failing school and would have lost her scholarship.

Confine your criticism of the UM system to the facts and evidence and you'll find I'm a harsher critic than you could ever be of my alma later.
