in a similar vein, there is no such thing as income inequality. there is such a thing a different income outcome or income starting point. i buy that.

There certainly is. Though a better measure would be wealth inequality imo. Now if you were to say there is no such thing as income equality, I wouldn't disagree.
The question of inequality to me is more a question of severity. At some point it becomes destabilizing to the government and the economy. Large underclasses have not been shy about fricking shite up when the wealth is in the hands of too few. That being said, it isn't a pressing issue for the United States.
