OT- Should the Hawks tank?

If we miss the playoffs we'll probably get a top 10 pick with a small chance of a lotto pick. If we hold off the surging Knicks(we gave up the 8 seed and got it back on Saturday when we won and they lost), then we get a date with Miami and will be lucky to win one game and probably be stuck with the 14th pick at best.

Is it bad that I'm pulling for us to lose out and get upset when I see we won? I'm just tired of mediocrity(and we're getting worse than the last few years) and want us to maybe get a difference maker and let someone else get swept by the Heat.

The Hawks are in the purgatory of the NBA. They're good enough to make the playoffs and get a non-lottery pick, but they're bad enough that they will nver make a playoff run. I think they should tank too.

Well the East is just garbage this year. We're not playoff caliber at all, but sadly we're 1.5 games in the 8 seed even though we're 9 games under 500. We would be in the dumpster in the West

Oh and great, we're beating the Pacers 17-3.

This should be a sure loss.

frick tanking. I don't care if it makes sense. Tanking is wrong.

Also, you never have any clue if your draft pick will pan out. There hasn't been any must get players in the draft since Kevin Durant, and it was 2004 when the draft really was special.

Beating the Pacers like that gave me hope for the team's coaching future! We just need freaking talent now

^This. If I ever see the Hawks tanking a season away I'll stop being a fan of them. Tanking is unacceptable.

They most certainly should. They are not bad enough to get top picks and aren't good enough to win on a given night. We're stuck right now

I trust what Ferry and company are doing. Before the team was decimated by injuries, we were the 3rd seed in the conference. While the East is weak, it was still far better than what most expected after losing a number of players to trades and free agency. I really wish Horford could stay healthy.

If they were going to tank they should have started as soon as Horford went down and traded Milsap to a contender. Nothing against Milsap, but if you are going to tank in the NBA you have to go all in like the Sixers are currently doing.

Amen. In the Nba, 1 player can turn a team around. We don't get good enough picks for that

If the Hawks could steal a playoff game, it'd create a lot of momentum heading into next season and hopefully get the attention of some top free agents.

Danny Ferry and Coach Buderholzer seem like a really really solid team.

We've won playoff games before but that didn't help with the top free agents. And with what money are we signing these free agents with? We don't have a lot of cap room. The top free agents want to play with other top players. Your best chance for getting one of these top players is in the draft.

That's the only way we're getting top talent at this point

What does anything that's happened in the past have to do with anything? The Hawks have a brand new brain trust this season from top to bottom.

They were third in the East and building momentum before Horford went down.

Well since what's happened in the past is the best way to predict the future. But do you really think fans are excited about a new GM and a new coach? Hardly. But give them a top draft pick (say top 5) and they will come

God yes...especially since Hartford went.down AND the fact that Brooklyn is actually doing pretty good since we have their 1st rd
pick. I thought we had a chance for at least one lottery pick when the season started

Looks like it'll be a some very good talent in this year draft (depending who comes out)
