An extra loss means more than an extra win. He is stating how once the playoff starts we could potentially just knock SEC teams out of it entirely if we are playing more games that the rest of the country doesn't have to worry about.

Well, it's not an "extra" loss in itself, it's just another SEC loss. In that case, the potential benefits are pretty much equal to the potential detriments. That extra SEC win is worth more than a win over ULL, and that extra SEC loss hurts less than, well, a loss to ULL. I think it evens out, especially since the "better resume for the playoffs" was actually touted as a pro for instituting a 9 game schedule.

I'm not so sure. If the selection committee operates much like current AP and Coaches poll voters, extra losses actually do hurt worse than quality wins help. That's why so many schools schedule cupcakes now. If a team takes a loss, even if they have had impressive wins, and even if the squad they lost to is good, then that team usually drops below many or most of the undefeated teams. Even the undefeated teams that have played only creampuffs.

And teams that lose to ULL don't deserve to be in the picture, anyway.
