1. When you say he didn't win with players he recruited are you including the 2010 class he signed?

2. What exactly is the point that you're trying to make? That Butch only won in Cincinnati because of the talent left to him?

In 2011 Butch only had a handful of players that he actually recruited that made the 3 deep. That team was successful because of players from the 2007-2009 classes. The 2012 season saw some of the 2010 class contribute but only one WR who finished 3rd on the roster for yds. But to be fair he what arrived with 6 weeks to recruit over half the team he brought in. The only 2 he signed that were above 3 star neither qualified.

So to answer the 1st question yes he was successful in 2011 and 2012 mainly due to players B Kelly had brought in.

In regards to my point is we do not know what he can do yet. What we do know when he has been left talent on par with his competition he has been successful on the field. So it seems he can coach in the game and so maybe if he can bring in the talent over the next few years he will get UT back to the top.

The issue for UT this season is the schedule is not easy and Butch does not have that luxury of elite legacy talent coming in and recruiting hard with no concern how the season plays out. If UT has a rough season like last we will actually find out how good of a recruiter he is. Again he appears to be able to coach with talent on par with the opponent but he does not have that talent on level with the top tier in the SEC yet. If UT finishes 6-6 or 5-7 lets see if he can hold on to everyone and sell another year we are rebuilding brick by brick.

Again he may the one and the mess inherited all the way back the later years of Fulmer are still haunting the program.
