As a Tennessee fan, I couldn't agree with you more. We heard the same stuff coming from them regarding Dooley.....and we can see how wrong they were about him.

Dooley was different. He was a joke to begin with. Had a losing record the year before Tenn hired him. Dooley was simply timing and a lack of options. Tenn should have gone the "smile" route.
Arky did it right though. Coach left at a bad time so they waiting until the next cycle. During that cycle the jumped on the most accomplished coach that would take the job.
They did all the right moves, and honestly if Arky was in B1G or ACC right now they are fine. Arky's problem is that the accomplished guy got his skins on the wall in a conference that is 10+ years behind the rest of America scheme-wise.
So while on paper it was a coup to get him, in reality they were just catching up to a point (that their previous coach set) that everyone else had already moved on past.
Dooley was never accomplished, no one but his mama thought he was special. Any Tenn fan that for one second thought he was "the one" was living in a much stronger delusion than Arky fans have.
