He was known as an outstanding recruit at UF.
I interned in strength and conditioning at UF while he was there.
He was a monster recruiter. He's recruited a lot of NFL talent and is really highly regarded when it comes to recruiting.
I think most of the posters on here don't know much about him TBH.

I will not doubt that. I will say today that he will still get top 10 classes easily.
The difference is, unlike with Brown, is that a lot of that talent will come from out of state.
Strong has already shown that rather than swim upstream and fight the relationships that Sumlin and Briles have in place that he will instead leverage the relationships he has built in Florida to steal talent out of that state. Florida HS players don't seem to jump on the state loyalty bandwagon like Texas boys do, so he is taking that Texas brand to Florida and bringing them over. Which is a smart move when everyone in Austin expects immediate results.
The problem with that method is that it hurts him politically because Texas fans pretty much expect their team to be a representation of the best of Texas HS football. So he will get pressure to recruit more in Texas where the path is tougher.
Even if he doesn't face political problems for raiding Florida, it is great for us because he is not competing directly with us for talent and he might inadvertently harm SEC teams.
So basically either way we can't lose. Strong was the best hire Texas could have made if you are an Aggie (the worst being Saban or Briles).

Apparently Sumlin didn't get the message. He's already flipping Strong's defensive recruits.
I'm not worried about Strong. The guy they needed was Franklin. That dude would have been a fricking nightmare at Texas. Thinking about it really is frightening.
Instead Strong's losing kids to Sumlin already. He's not bringing in an OC that runs the style offense in which Texas kids want to play. Hell he's hiring Joe Wickline--Ok State's great OL coach--as co-OC. Shawn Watson will call the plays. Texas fans are livid.
I don't doubt Charlie will get his fair share of kids. But he's not threatening Sumlin right now. And I'm not worried about that changing soon.
