Gerald Berry has passed away. I saw mentioned that he had walking pneumonia and also saw mentioned that he had a heart attack. Terrible.

Damn. I sat and had a beer with him at Stagger one of the first few weeks I moved here.
Would see him almost daily on N Nash near my apartment. (I also somehow see Jeremiah everywhere I go.)
RIP Gerald.

He was a local legend, man. He's been in/around Starkville forever, I think. I've had many of Budweiser's with him.

This really hurts. Had many beers with ole Gerald at Drifters. He will be missed.

Yeah, I figured that out quick.
Told one of my buddies about having a beer with him and he said "Oh yeah, that's Gerald." Ever since then, I've seen him everywhere.
One of the cool things I've loved about Starkville. Great small town feel to it compared to Tuscaloosa/UA. People like Gerald/Jeremiah, all the local restaurants, etc. Never would have thought it, but I'm gonna miss this place when I graduate.

Nobody loved MSU and Starkville like that gent.
OBReb: @GeraldBerry
Check him out. He was a socialite/local celebrity of sorts.

quote:
May I ask who he was?
The guy looks like he was homeless. He carried, seemingly, his life belongings in a backpack, and often had a very nice camera around his neck. Legend has it that this was indeed not the case and that he was a very wealthy man but chose to live the lifestyle that is portrayed by many ITT.
The real story of Gerald? Who really knows? I guess it just adds to his mystique.

Don't think he was wealthy. I think he took pictures at dark horse and posted them in exchange for free drinks.

Was he a town drunk kinda guy that everyone knew?

He told us his beard was older than ZZ top's. He just kept his cut

Yeah more or less. Just an interesting personality that college towns seem to have.
