I was just watching some Saban-era LSU games on You Tube...

Saban looked excited about the game, clapping, jumping, smiling. The guy is one of the greatest coaches in history and it was nice to see him in those moments where he seemed to really enjoy the game. I'm sure he still enjoys the game but he just looks like he takes it too seriously these last few years. Relax Nick...smile a little!
And good luck stomping Stoops in yet another Sugar Bowl!

He sure seemed happy hugging AJ after beating LSU.

all sec coaches loved life more in the early 2000s when they got to eyefrick this on the reg

Aww you really do miss him don't you?

I hate these types of threads. Why start another war with Bama fans? And honestly, why does it matter which school Nick Saban was happier at?

Seems like the complete opposite to me. Since the tornado he has seemed much more laid back.

Yea but you know LSU fans still know him better than anybody else so I guess we have to take the OP's word for it...

It is probably because it didn't happen.

why is it sad to watch old games of your favorite team?

Isn't that the same as going back and looking at pictures of the good times you and your ex-girlfriend had while being married?

You've never rewatched an Alabama game under a former coach?
I doubt that. Shut the frick up, shitbag.

We'll always have '03

Sure I have. But I didn't rationalize that the former coach was happier and enjoying the game more at that time than his current job.
Don't be so mad, friend.

Hey morons, I didn't say Saban was happier at LSU nor did I say I wished he was still the coach at LSU. I guess I should've drawn a picture or typed more s-l-o-w-l-y. What I meant was he looked like he enjoyed the thrill of the game more when he was up and coming. Now that he is established and much more successful he seems more disappointed on the sidelines.
LSU football was exciting in the Saban years, as expectations of winning every game were low. So yes, I do enjoy watching football games from earlier years. I also watched some highlights of Les Miles' 2005 season and also a few of Dinardo from 1997.
Was also kinda funny to see Muschamp and Dooley on the sidelines.

The pressure definitely taken a toll on Saban. Most of the time he isn't happy after a win (unless it's LSU), it's more a sigh of relief and on to the next one.

if anything he's mellowed since then, not the opposite

Happens to all coaches, players and even fans.
Once you have such high expectations you lose the little joys because you are expecting perfection and a national championship every year that even a close win against a team is a "let down" in some cases.
While I am glad we are much improved as a program, it also kind of sucks I can't get as excited as I was about "sub par" seasons like I used to in the past (ex. 2000, beating GT in the Peach Bowl was freaking awesome...now a Chicken Bowl makes people pissed off)
