Let me start by first pointing out that, in the interest of keeping my home's zEstimate as high as possible, Little Rock > Fayetteville. It is a glorious bastion of culture unrivaled by any other location in our great state. Little Rock has .5 presidential libraries per 100,000 people. Fayetteville has 0. Lawyered.

Hotels
The Capital Hotel - The Capital is easily the best hotel in Little Rock. It is located downtown and has a great, albeit expensive, restaurant called Ashley's. They have an excellent bar in the lobby that also serves good food and can get pretty crowded on the weekend. This will be the most expensive option.

I know next to nothing about hotels. Just don't stay in the ghetto.

Bars
I usually stay away from downtown, mainly because I prefer to drink Mickey's while sitting on my couch with no pants on.

There are a couple of decent bars in the Hillcrest area near the stadium. The Fountain is a beer and wine bar that is always a good time. They allow smoking inside, so when you wake up the next morning you will feel like you ate a pack of cigarettes. The Afterthought has live music and doesn't really get too crowded. Ciao Baci is a little more upscale and can get pretty crowded. Their food is pretty legit.

Another option is Town Pump. It isn't near the stadium, or anything else really. They have good bar food. I really like their burgers. Takes forever to get a drink when it gets crowded. Takes less time if you dress like a hipster douchebag.

Heading back towards downtown you run into Pizza D's. Really smokey. Can be fun.

Whitewater Tavern has live music and has always been a good time.

Midtown Billiards is in the ghetto. It stays open until 5am. If you get hammered, try a burger. You can smoke inside. It is cheap. On Thursdays at 7:00 they let you throw bottles at trash cans. It is awesome.

I can't get really descriptive with downtown. Don't know much about it. Flying Saucer has lots of beer. There are a couple of Piano Bars. Dugan's is a fun Irish pub. Big Whiskey's sucks. Sticky Fingerz can be fun. WT Bubbas is my guilty pleasure. It is redneck themed.

Don't go to Discovery. You're welcome.

Food where you don't need to dress up all fancy
Big Orange - Best burgers on the planet. Good beer selection. Try the Hickory Smoke.

Maddie's Place - Creole. They have a ribeye that comes up often on their specials that is amazing. The fried chicken w mac and cheese is awesome.

Faded Rose - Creole. Right next to Maddie's. Everything is good. They have a hot pepper shrimp appetizer that is great. Good spice. Also have good frog legs. Blackened blue filet is amazing.

Vino's - Has good pizza and brews their own beer. Very fricking hipstery.

Food where you should put on something a little nice
Vesuvio - Used to be located in a hotel. Moved to a new location recently. Great Italian.

Capeo - North Little Rock. Good stuff.

Arthur's Steakhouse - Great steaks. Very Expensive

Terry's Finer Foods - Better steaks. Slightly less expensive.

Acadia - In Hillcrest. Never crowded. Delicious.

Brave New Restaurant - Best fish in town. Steaks are a crapshoot.

So - In Hillcrest. Expensive. Hard to find parking, but they valet. Amazing. Worth the money.

Natchez - Southern style food. Downtown. Good stuff.

Sonny Williams - Good steak.

Ashley's - Located in the Capital Hotel. Fancy schmancy. Excellent food. Can't remember but I would be willing to bet that portion sizes are small.

Football
Much different crowd than Fayetteville. Tailgating on the golf course surrounding the stadium. Shitshow. Stadium is smaller. Small seats. Pray there are no fatties on your row. Fayetteville and the little plastic chandeliers they hang in the tents look downright fancy as frick compared to the golf course. Shitshow.

Things to do
Drink
Pinnacle Mountain
Drink
Presidential Library

Football

Little Rock has amazing golf, but save that for another trip if you are flying in for a game weekend.

Racing season is over by the time football rolls around, but I would highly suggest making a trip to Oaklawn for the horse races if you are back sometime between mid January and mid April. Towards the end of the season they open up the infield and it is a pretty fun party.

wait....what? On the actual course? Why would the course allow that? Wouldn't it get torn up and trashed every weekend?

Two locations. Original location is in West Little Rock in the Promenade. New location is in the Midtowne Shopping Center across the street from Park Plaza.

My dad lives within walking distance of the Big Orange in Midtown, we always go there when I visit. Great burgers but DO NOT get the Atom Bomb, it will destroy your butthole.

Not walking distance. It is downtown. There is not much to choose from that is walking distance. I think they opened up a new hotel near the stadium on the wrong side of 630. I'll go ahead and put a big fat AVOID sticker on it.

When I mentioned earlier that Little Rock had great golf, I was most certainly not referring to this shite heap of a course. I did make an eagle there a year or two ago, so I have going for me.

Also, I forgot about Maduro. It's a cigar bar downtown with an excellent bourbon and scotch selection. Only been there twice, but I really enjoyed myself both times. Much more laid back atmosphere.

Still...won't trash and beer cans be littered all over the fairways? Won't tents make divots all over the place?

I've never heard of tailgating on a golf course before. Do most people go reserve spots or do you just show up early and go wherever you want?

I'm not really 100% sure on this. When I was pledging we had to get to the golf course at 5am to get our spot and get it set up, so it may still be first come first serve. I always skipped that. I wasn't a very good pledge.

Okay....So I'll actually try and help you out some....I am assuming you're of the younger generation and enjoy similar things as I do....so here goes....

quote:

Sooo, what's the deal with LR? I understand it is quite different than fayetteville.

It's quite a bit different. I lived in West Little Rock for 2 years. Little Rock gets a bad rap, but if you stay and go to the right areas, it's not bad.

quote:

Will there be a different type of fanbase there?

Yes, there will be. This will be the only game in Little Rock next year, so I expect the drunks to be worse than normal. Also, with it being Georgia,Mather crazies will be out in force. My first piece of advice is to ignore idiots. You will encounter drunk idiots. The tailgating area is so large, there is quite a bit of alcohol consumed. We are talking an entire 18 hole golf course full of parties. I would suggest after the game if dark, just walk straight back to your parked vehicle and make no eye contact with anyone. Prior to going into the stadium, take off your vehicle any decor you may have. It will not be there when you get back.

quote:

What's the stadium like

It's old, small, compact, and at times can be loud. The loudest game I've been to as a Razorback fan was in Little Rock. You will be squeezed in tightly.

quote:

Stuff to do around? Should we stay in LR

I would advise staying downtown on the River Market. If you want to be able to go out at night and not have to worry about driving or paying for a cab. If we go to Little Rock, we stay at the Capital Hotel. The Peabody isn't too bad, but it isn't the Peabody any longer and I'm not sure what its called now. There is also a Doubletree at the end of that same street. River Market is full of bars and good nightlife if that's what you like. Easy drive from those hotels to War Memorial Saturday morning.

quote:

Is it worth flying, and can I fly directly into LR? What kind of atmosphere will it be compared to fayetteville?

Yes, Little Rock has an airport. When I loved there, Frontier flew in and out quite often, as did Southwest, American, and United. Not been there in a while, but it used to be a small nice airport. For years, it was the best airport in the state.

Atmosphere....as stated, will be more drunks and more rednecks..tailgating is great, but there are a lot of folks who go just to party and don't go to the game.

For a game like Georgia you will need to reserve a tailgating spot on the golf course. If you want to tailgate this is the way to go, it's the best thing about Little Rock games.
