Gurley beat Marshall in the 110 hurdles during the North Carolina state Track Championship. I'd say he is pretty close to Hurshall speed. Marshall did beat Gurley in the 100 Meter Dash.

The 40 yard dash wasn't prevalent back in Herschel's day but he ran a 4.25 time in the 40 with the Dallas Cowboys. Herschel was also a track star at Georgia with a 9.3 100 yard dash and was on our championship relay team. Gurley's best time in the 40 according to nfldraftscout.com is 4.43. LINK That is obviously a very good time but not quite in Herschel's league. Still, if our OL was elite, a healthy Gurley should be statistically the best RB in the SEC. The problem of course is we don't have an elite OL. In fact, most of our offensive yardage and TD's have come through Murray's arm which is why Aaron's stats are so impressive. Georgia was 47th in rushing yards per game this season and 38th last season. Not very impressive with 2 of the best RB's in college football though granted injuries to both were a major factor this season. Bottom line: we get excellent skill players on offense but we definitely need to recruit better on the OL and coach up the talent we can get.

Yeah Gurley has got great burst and acceleration, but I think he is more in the 4.45-4.5 range as far 40 times go. I believe Herschel was more in the 4.35 range on average from everything that I've read. Plus Walker was an all american track athlete in college.
