Vic Hampton is not a lock to leave early

He recently said that when his paperwork comes back from the NFL Advisory committe, if he's projected in the 1st or 2nd, he gone. However, if it's in the 3rd or 4th, he may think of coming back. That would make me believe that if it's the 5th or later, he's definitely going to come back.

Would be huge if he comes back

Saw where one of the TBS guys heard he might not even go before Legree... I don't think he would get higher than a 4th round grade, honestly. He could use another year to get his name out there more.

Coming back as an AP 2nd Team All SEC winner will get him the preseason accolades to build his name more next year. There were was 1 Sr CB on the 1st Team this year and there were 2 other 2nd Team CB's. So he'll have a legit shot at being a PreSeason All SEC CB and he can build the hype all year.

In this article from NFL.com Hampton says, a draft grade outside of the top 2 rounds might make him consider staying.

He definitely appears to be having some second thoughts. Heard he told someone that he is feeling a lot of love from our fans out there.
Coach also had a talk with him evidently and he came out of that meeting with some second thoughts. Christian leaving has caused him to have some second thoughts as well.
Vic is a good kid at heart ... runs his mouth too much some times but he's come a long ways and regardless of what his final decision is, he's going to end-up being one of the most loyal Gamecocks we've ever had.
He recently told a friend of mine that Carolina has been very good to him and he is thinking it wouldn't be too bad to earn his degree before he leaves.
So he has a lot to think about - but I guess it all depends on his draft projection.
Anyone here believe he'll be drafted in the first three rounds even? I mean it appears to be a big year for corners coming out already - many of them experienced seniors. He would do well to stick around another year.

As it stands now, no. He did help his stock by shutting down Sammy Dropkins though for the 2nd straight time. If he has a good game against Wisc he will continue to rise. He really needs to have a good Pro Day and a good showing at the Combine if he's going to crack the Top 3 Rds. I think he could do it, but we'll have to wait and see what the NFL Advisory committee says.

Can you go to the Combine and then return to school (if say you didn't have a good showing or grade)? I figure they would only invite people who were for sure going pro.

He can attend the pro days that we host annually at the school ... and he can always return after that as long as he's had no contact with an agent.
The pro days are basically mini combines. I've been to a few, quite a few actually, and they are typically held at our indoor practice facility. It's an interesting day to observe. You see a few agents hanging around, for those guys already declared and for the seniors, but they are not allowed anywhere near the undeclared guys. They are warned to keep their distance.

That's a really great question. I know as soon as a player gets an agent, then they are a Pro. I also know that the Combine only invites underclassmen who have already declared their intent to go Pro.
So maybe technically, a player could not get an agent, declare for the NFL, attend the combine and then see what happens. However, if he was going to declare for the NFL, it would behoove him to get the best agent possible to start advocating for him.
I can't think of one example where a guy declared for the NFL, went to the combine and then went back to college, so I don't think they would let that happen.

Right, but those are typically after the Combine, I think. You see a guy post a sub par 40 or life a disappointing amount at the Combine then show out at their school's Pro Day on the regular.

Nah, they're before the combines.
Now, if there are some special players that, for whatever reason, may not have attended the combin beit for injury reasons or because they weren't invited or whatever ... they'll hold a post combine day for them but it's usually done at various regional sites although we have hosted that event once or twice.
Pre combine pro days are for those players specifically on our team. Some of them still may not attend the combines, like I doubt Clowney will (because he doesn't have to), but they will get a chance to earn an invite at the pro days.
We've had some big time NFL coaches and scouts attending ourpro days in recent years.
Eta: I hate fricking autocorrect. I spend more editing time correcting autocorrect than I would just going with whatever my big thumbs frick up on this phone.

You would think so, but at least in my case, I was very wrong. Tried this, and it was like I completely forgot how to text.

Vic Hampton didn't send in NFL Papers and has already made a decision...what does this mean?

Well if he didn't send in papers then it's safe to assume he is staying then.

In the interview today he said that he actually never sent the papers in, but he thinks he's projected as a 2nd-3rd round guy...fricking agents/runners....
He should've sent the papers in. I hope he does well at the combine and pro day, he'll need it to get into the 3rd round. He's been a great Gamecock, best of luck to him.

Clowney instagrammed a pic w/ him and Ellington saying last game for both of them. We're deep at WR but dammit.

...Bruce might be like Hampton in that they're both really good players, but neither had a lot of hype around them. If he's going, he has to have a great combine and pro day. Although, Ellington's highlight reel from today is going to get a lot of people interested.

What an idiot.
I really really really hope Ellington comes back. He helps the basketball team this year and would be a monster next year
