thank you sir. A true fighter. Not everyone can raise their fists in protest when they are sentenced to a lifetime in prison. Not everyone can stay sane on an island in prison for over 20 years. And he still came back and fought. Gone but not forgotten

not going with the faux outrage of fellow conservatives on this one.
Guy made some terrible mistakes before his imprisonment and after, but to come back from that and seek reconciliation and forgiveness for a whole nation after that is a great moment in mankind.

I wish I could forgive Nelson Mandela for being a violent communist
with shipped in arms and munitions for Oklahoma City and Boston Marathon style bombings.
I wish I could forgive him for nationalizing many industries in S.A. He even tried to hide
the fact that he essentially ran a terrorist army.
I wish I could forgive him for marrying a woman who willingly
murdered teenagers by coating them in barbed wire and placing
a burning tire filled with gasoline around their neck, called 'necklacing'.
Oh, wait, he took over the gov't from white people?
Must be a saint

Oh, and he lead a terrorist army that wasn't
against murdering children or teenagers.
But you know, he ended apartheid so he must be swell.

I find it humorous that some people will deify this guy but demonize someone like Bush. They've both done terrible things.

No doubt,
Bush has a legacy of killing people and being okay with young American Men dying in unnecessary wars.
Mandela was a terrorist, not a "terrorist" but a child murdering arms smuggling son of a.

i disagree with your thesis. if you feel that is the case on Bush, than Kennedy, Johnson, Bush 41, and Wodrow Wilson are all guilty of the same thing. FDR is the only president who could be found as innocent under that definition. And while I think the merit of the wars is incredibly debatable on both sides, Bush has done amazing things for returning vets thanking them for their service and being a presence in the life of returning soldiers. I think he understands it was a mistake at this point, but is staying involved in the returning military's life without the media parading it.
And while I don't think you can find any honest necklacing, terrorism denyers for Mandela, the man sincerely changed his approach and worldview afterwards. As much as it is terrible that he did/condone those things, he came back from jail with a repentant heart and renounced that violence.
Don't agree with a lot of the things he did after the fact, but how much more redeeming is a truly repentant heart after his atrocities, than somebody like Osama bin Laden who took his hate with him to a watery grave.

The reason Mandela deserves our admiration is for his ability to forgive and forget.
He could have very easily persecuted those who persecuted him once apartheid was ended. He didn't. He fought for justice and equality, not the simple power and revenge that so many other men would have fought for.

you are thankful the child murdering terrorist bomber with a militant communist militia was able to forgive and forget?
even when he got in power he fought to nationalize industries as best he could.
hardly "opened markets".

Derp
derp derp
now he has said that he thinks if put in the same position with the same knowledge he had at the time he'd do it again, I agree with that statement. He regrets trusting in the information and reports he had at the time.

That literally hast nothing to do with racial disparity. It's completely irrelevant to my point.

I'm saying he never really put down he manual he wrote about how to be a good communist.
he still wanted state coercion in control of industry after getting out of prison.
