Say what you want about Bert, but at least he's making news for the right reasons...

Exhibit A for 2013: the ballot of Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, which ranks 12-1 Big Ten runner-up Ohio State No. 12, the Buckeyes' lowest ranking on any of the 62 ballots cast. Bielema rated Ohio State lower than five different two-loss teams (including South Carolina, Oregon and Oklahoma), and placed AAC runner-up Louisville at No. 6 -- making him the only coach of the 62 to have the Cardinals higher than 10th.

Bertrude can vote pro SEC all day but, Arkansas should have hired Gus. He was right there for the taking.

I think #12 is a decent spot for Ohio shite.

Good for Bert, for once.
Also, I don't even think putting tOSU at #12 is unfair.

Yeah who would want to be in the BCSNCG when you could be 0-8 in the SEC

yes, it's magical how he could have gone to any team and had the same record. gus copperfield!

Also, I'm confused as to why the writer tried to make a big deal of him putting OSU behind South Carolina. USCe would curb stomp OSU if they played this season. South Carolina played two top 10 teams (Clemson and Mizzou) and beat them both, while OSU lost to the only ranked team they played.

Since much of the same team remains from a terrible '12 season, it does seem that Gus's scheme has much to do with Auburns success.

This is what amazes me that people seem to believe.

Completely different situations/circumstances at AU & UofA.

i wasn't arguing that it didn't. i was responding to someone who alluded to the fact that he would have had the same record here. do you think that's the case?

Pretty much this.
There are probably 7 SEC teams that would beat/curb stomp OSU.

Honest question -- why do Auburn people act like it's a slight against Gus when Hog fans say they're happy with the hiring of Bielema? Both were good hires, and a lot of us said so at the time. Bert had an outstanding track record, so it's not like it was a forehead slapper at the time.
Plus, and this can't be overstated -- the roster that Uncle Slappy and Petrino left is an utter trainwreck. Gus is a great coach, but he wouldn't have made a bowl game with this squad either, and they'd be building a statue to him outside the new football facility if he did. Petrino quite literally just didn't recruit any players for the back seven, and most were scrubs that we beat out the likes of SMU and Arkansas State to get. Two of our starting linebackers were walk-on seniors, one of which was a transfer who couldn't get on the field at Air Force.
Believing they were good hires isn't mutually exclusive.

I don't think anyone ever argued that.
The point was that Gus inherited a much better team than Bert did, and that's not taking anything away from Gus.
Chiz sucked as a head coach, but he could recruit. Petrino was a great head coach who couldn't recruit for shite, especially on defense.
Tell me which situation you'd have preferred to walk into.

Gus would have made a bowl game with Ark this year easily.
