Here's my idea: Dissolve conferences. All teams play eight exhibition games for seeding. Final 7 weeks of season is a 128-team playoff. Bang.

Should take power conferences, and break them into 8, 8 team conferences (one or two might have 9). Play a regular season schedule of 7 conference games, and 4 non conference, which must consist of one of the remaining 56 teams. At the end of the season, the 8 conference champions go to a playoff.
