I entirely disagree. Bama had a run of pure coaching misery, which is more attributable to your lack of success and mediocre recruiting than Bama's capability.

I don't know why you'd want to downplay the inherent advantages of coaching at Alabama over somewhere like USC. Moreover, I don't know how you can dispute that Saban is a brand that exceeds his own individual capabilities. That's the advantage of a splash hire, you get instant credibility regardless of the product.

Could Saban win 3/4 at USC? I doubt it, even if he went from UA to USC today. Do I think given the time, he'd win at USC? Probably. Do I think it would be more of a challenge coming out of the NFL, before he had as big of a reputation for CFB dominance? Certainly.
