There was no selling necessary. The SEC door has always been open to the Aggies. When it became clear this time that it was really going to happen, Slive and the conference's presidents were jumping up and down in joy.

There was equally no hesitation about adding Mizzou, IMO. The only unknown was Mizzou's administrative interest in the SEC. It was obvious that many Tiger fans wanted to be in the SEC, but the academic appeal of the Big X to MU's administration and faculty posed a hurdle to the union. When the Big X offered a limited, earn-your-way-into-our-conference plan, Mizzou jumped into the open, welcoming and immediate-full-membership arms of the SEC.
