After work I'm headed to your glorious town for a night with the lady and I haven't been there yet. The pictures I saw look awesome. Has anyone been there? What's the menu/pricing like?
TIA
TIA

I've only been there once for a drink, but just recently had a friend go there to eat and said it was really good.
Beer was good, but expensive. Definitely seems like it'd be a good, cool date place.

Does it have any inside seating options or it is entirely outside? I realize that indoors defeats the purpose but in light of the weather...

That I cannot answer, unfortunately. I only went in the summer and we sat outdoors.

Any of the indoor stuff is just part of Hotel Chester I think. No idea if they do seating in their or not when it's rainy.
I went once near the beginning of the semester - the beer was good although a little pricy. Not a huge selection either. The food was great, though.

What's pricy for Starkville nowadays? $3.50 beer

Ha, I think it was like $4 or $5, can't really remember.

I can handle 4-5 bucks for craft beers and whatnot. I just have. Problem paying 3$ fr a bud light I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry

The only resemblance to the Starkville beer garden and a real beer garden is the outdoor atmosphere and bench tables. The beer is mostly local and the food doesn't resemble anything like a true beer garden which is a shame. Some grilled chicken, ribs, schnitzel, brats and giant pretzels are great simple foods that would make this place rock. They tried to get to fancy with things like rubarb pie. It is really not to be confused with a beer garden.

Nothing wrong with mostly local beer, if it really is brewed mostly locally. There are a number of craft brewers in the southeast producing some decent beer, even one (barely) in MS. What Starkville really needs is a bona fide brewpub, but I think the local government makes it hard to open up a business in that town, unless you have connections. It's a shame. Sad to say, Oxford is a much nicer town for eating and drinking. Of course things have improved over the time I was an undergraduate when Oktibbeha county was dry.

German beer would be great to drink in a beer garden. The one in Starkville has a couple of good beers, but they serve the beer in mason jars if I remember correctly. What a travesty!

Well, serving beer in a mason jar is sort of lame. Bier gartens are not only common in Germany...they are all over the place. The problem with serving German and European beers in Starkville is two-fold. First, getting the local market to pony up for German beers might be a challenge. Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of German beers both in Germany and over here. But how do you educate locals about the joys of seasonal German beers like Dopple Bock, Maibock, Marzen, Rauchbier, Oktoberfest, witbier, Berlinerweis and so forth when Bud light and such is the norm? Secondly, American craft brewers make beers that are every bit as good as, and typically more innovative than, German beers. That's one reason why I think Starkville is a ripe market for a brewpub, with onsite brewed beers. There's one in Oxford according to Southeastern Brewer News. In any case, it's a moot point for me as I rarely make it back to the old stomping grounds. At least Starkville has a trendy coffee shop on Main St. now....

Mason Jars are a travesty. Mississippi has more refined beer drinkers than you might think. There's a very big craft beer movement happening here.
I grew up in Texas so I'm fairly familiar with Bavarian style beers....mmmmmmm

Have y'all not been to halfway house? They have a good selection of craft beer and the food is actually good.
Where I hang out every Friday night I come to town.

old quiznos building across from strombolis on university.

I am glad that Quizno's went under. Quizno's is gross, and it's good to get rid of a chain restaurant and replace it with something local whenever possible.
