Okay.
Scenario: WR catches the ball in the endzone but the DB knocks the ball out of his hand after the WR has planted his feet. That would be not a touchdown, correct? How is that different from when a WR catches the ball out of the back of the endzone and just happens to get his feet in bounds before falling to the ground out of bounds?
Doesn't it seem that the single instantaneous moment the WR catches the ball with his feet touching the ground, that should be a TD, no matter if the ball is knocked out?
Just like if a RB is running into the endzone but is getting tackled right before the line so he outstretches the ball to break the plane, but a defender knocks it out. That would still be a TD. As long as it crosses the plane.

He has to have the catch by a couple determining factors. Also depends on how quickly it gets knocked out.

The receiver has to control the ball through out the entire catch or it's not a catch. Basic football 101

I think it's all about maintained possession at some point in time by the ball carrier. The WR just getting a foot in keeps possession, even if it's out of bounds. The HB barely stretching the ball across the goal line has possession before he gets into the endzone.

When the ball is knocked out of the hands. The WR didn't possess the ball before or after he was in the endzone.

I want to see if I am reading the question correctly. Are you asking if a wide receiver goes up and gets the ball in the endzone, catches the ball, lands on his feet (does not go to the ground, he remains upright the entire time), and then gets it knocked out of his hands?

Incorrect

Possession with feet down in the endzone is a TD. Now, if a player is going to the ground he must maintain possession, but a DB cannot knock the ball away from a player already in possession with feet in the endzone.

Yeah. Only have to complete the catch when going to the ground.

Pretty good description.
The rule book words it as maintaining control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game....which is what you said.

Here's another difference about the receiver's feet and whether he's inbounds:
1. Drag a toe = inbounds
2. Tap a toe = inbounds
3. Toe down inbounds then heel hits the line = out of bounds

This. Pretty simple. If a WR grabs a ball but can't demonstrate possession, no TD. The NFL rules are much more complicated, but the college rules are fairly straight forward.

No. If possession is established, it is a touchdown.

If, on the other hand, he never has clear possession, it is not.

It's basically a judgement call that differs not at all from any other catch. If it would be considered a catch at the 50 yard line, it's a touchdown in the endzone. The only difference is that once the ball is considered controlled, the play is dead and the defense can't do anything about it.

The difference between the WR and the runner is that the runner has already established control of the ball, so the second it breaks the plane, it's a TD.

How are these 2 different? In college you only need one foot in bounds and its instantaneous so if he has a toe down with possession but then his heel hits out, why is that not a TD.
I guess, whats the difference between a player catching a ball towards the sideline with just getting a toe in and catching a ball with his back toward the sideline, having the toe in, but getting his heel out?
