and you make them beat you in the air. Also grind out long drives on the ground chewing up clock.
Can Auburn beat Bama by throwing the ball?

You too scared to answer the question. Oregon is your mirror.

Auburn does not have a spread running game. Have you even watched Auburn? Most of the runs take place between the tackles.
In the past, Malzahn had been more prone to kicking it outside, but the offensive line wasn't nearly as good, nor was the running back depth.
Also, Malzahn has shown he can call a long drive if need be.

You can run the ball up the middle in spread offense.

True...but AU does not run a spread offense.

Yeah, well it's not exactly the spread. But keep championing that, AU leads the SEC in rushing by way of a power running attack. Just because a team elevates the pace at times and runs out of the shotgun, does not make them a spread.

If a team shuts down Auburn's run the team will beat Auburn.
If a team contains JFF they will beat A&M.
These things are easy to say but tough to do.

Spread Offense - Wikedpedia
The other extreme is the spread option - consisting of a slot receiver, a tailback, and a dual-threat quarterback - used by Gus Malzahn's Auburn Tigers,.....

Spread Teams Left On Bama's Schedule
Not sure why you boys don't like to be called spread teams when everyone in the country says you do.

We still have Chattanooga to worry about.

This thread eerily reminds me of the way "coach fran" would bristle whenever someone said he ran the option.
Whatever we call it, auburn uses the principle of spreading the field out and the qb reading the reaction of the defense before deciding what to execute during the play.
By the way, I agree with the OP. That is the KEY to stopping it. But that doesn't mean you can be horrible at defending the pass. This whole conversation has to assume you are talking about a team that is not blatantly weak in a major area of the game - this is about very good or elite teams.

HUNU is not the same as spread.

This is only posted to try to show you that auburn does not fit neatly into your preconceived notion of what the spread offense is.
Also, it's November 8, you play lsu tomorrow, we have tenn, and georgia before you guys, so why is a bama fan, who i'm sure no doubt has said he doesn't care about auburn, discussing auburn today?

Well, you've finally cracked the code.
So you are telling me if you shut a 'spread' team's run down, force them to pass and they can't, then milk the clock and keep them off the field you can win?
I wonder if any DC has tried to use that strategy on any team, including pro-style or any other offense ?

They're not identical, nor are they mutually exclusive. You *could* run a HUNH wishbone offense.
This is similar to the way many people confuse political systems with economic systems - democracy doesn't imply capitalism, and a federal republic isn't the opposite of communism.
