Sit down, Michigan-Ohio State.

Take a back seat, Alabama-Auburn. Not so fast, Florida-Florida State. Try a little harder, Notre Dame-USC. Better luck next time, Oklahoma-Texas.

While you're all amazing rivalry games, you just don't currently compare to the new rivalry in town:

ALABAMA-LSU

Four more years of Saban and it won't be much of a rivalry.

not trying to take anything away from the bama vs. lsu game becuase no doubt it's a huge game, but i always find it weird when folks outside the fanbases try to tell a fanbase who their biggest rival is.

The game doesn't have many title implications this year. Iron bowl is pretty much all that matters. If Alabama loses they still need to lose to Auburn, and If LSU wins they need Auburn to beat Bama and lose to someone else, and they need a scenario to work out where they win a 3 or 4 team tie breaker. Since divisional record is the first tiebreaker, they might have a shot after all.

No poll of fans...just one writer's opinion. And then he proceeds to contradict himself.

"The animosity and disdain that seeps into every major rivalry isn't really there for this one. Sure, there was the Saban storyline that lingered for a few years because he's coached and won a national championship at both schools, but the loathing between players and fans in other rivalries really doesn't exist here."

Then it isn't a rivalry.

"No, this game's winner is looking for bigger, more important awards, such as a division title and national championship."

So is the winner of the Bama-Chattanooga game. LSU has very little chance of winning the West, and no chance of getting to the BCS. According to this standard, Bama-LSU isn't even remotely close to being as big of a rivalry game as Alabama-Auburn.

So even according to the author himself, this game fails to meet the standards of being a rivalry game.

I think in recent history, Bama-LSU has been the biggest divisional/conference game in College Football. I don't know about calling it the biggest rivalry... I don't think it has a lot of the history or tradition surrounding the other match-ups mentioned.

Very few Bama fans consider LSU a rival.

Wait a minute. The Bama dorks here say LSU means just as much to them as Chattanooga does.

I mean, nothing says "rivalry" like Tennessee-Alabama.

So we change the "greatest rivalry" list every 5 years now?

Noted.
