I think he does a good job playing the "court jester." He's at his best when he questions consensus opinion or calls out the powerful, mainly as a columnist type. His show is to sports journalism what profession wrestling is to organized sports. If anyone takes it for more than that, they're misguided.

This Gameday format, however, isn't really for him. That said, he's no worse a chucklehead than these guys. Herbstreit is pretty good, desmond has his moments, the rest are pretty bad.

What I used to really like about his show was when he interviewed authors and local figures, like Richard Scrushy, Roy Moore, and Buddy Buie.
