Is he safe no matter how State finishes this season?

Pretty sure there aren't any state fans left here.

Probably but the hole will only get deeper if he zeros out this year (except for Arky of course) and they retain him..

Also, this thread should be stickied.. Probably the 3rd one this weekend.

If he backs into a bowl somehow he's safe for sure (doesn't seem like a likely scenario).

If he goes 5-7, he stands a decent chance of sticking around if he doesn't get blown out in every one of our next 4 losses.

If he blanks the rest of the season, I'd like to believe he's gone. I don't know how much faith I have in our AD to seal the deal, though. It's entirely possible he gets kept around even after this scenario because next season sets up for an almost guaranteed bowl game (and possibly more).

e: Actually, I doubt he's gone even if he finishes 5-7. He should be, but he won't.

Unless the team just quits on him, he won't be fired this year even if we lose out. Now if he can't do something with the young players getting better next year and we repeat this abortion, I think the money will be raised to oust him.

I say he's safe no matter what. Next year if he craps the bed with the returning players, I say his time is up.

no msu fan but i feel sorry for him. he's a pretty good coach but finds himself in a downward spiral. he almost beats good teams but just doesn't get the talent (or the breaks) to push over the top. having 3 schools in a state the size of mississippi is just too much to get the talent to win in the sec.

but they have had good teams in the past and won the west once (something their stepsister hasn't done) so i keep rooting for them.

i also think mullins may survive not being successful there even though he may have to go back to the assistant ranks for awhile or go to a smaller school. nothing at all wrong with that.

He misses a bowl(this obviously includes losing the Egg Bowl), he's gone...

Makes one(which can only happen with at least one pretty heavy upset against a ranked team, -13 vs SC and will be -7 to -14 in the Egg Bowl, which he hasn't done since he's been at MSU), he stays...

I think there would be alot more patience with him if Hudspeth wasn't in the picture...
