"Defense" isn't a proper answer here

D line and linebackers need to get it together and we need to run some tackling drills to learn to wrap up and finish

For the first time since 2011, I will not answer this question with "Special Teams - Kicking".

Tackling and generating a pass rush, but what the hell do I know

Defensive edge containment
Wrapping up on tackles
Any of our DE's getting pressure on the QB on passing plays consistently. I don't see this happening so we will have to continue blitzing to get any kind of pressure

DTs played exceptionally well. All of them. I don't really remember any big runs between the tackles - all counters on the edge.
In the run game, Obioha was fine but Stansbury lost his edge a lot. Neither got a pass rush and I don't think either will ever be particularly productive pass rushers. We just have to live with it until Hall is less of a liability in the run game.
LB play was poor across the board. Baggs looks like our new SAM and maybe during the bye we can actually practice everyone at their positions. The moving around, especially with so many inexperienced faces, hasn't helped but it's been understandable as they have to keep trying til they fix it.
Everett played lights out obviously. And both corners were good at times. Thought Jacobs played a lot better than last week. And while our corners gave up a couple of plays, for the most part, it was not their guys that were killing us.
We've got to reduce big plays. And for the most part, the ones we've given up are simple assignment football. You do that with practice and that's what we need to do during the bye week. Know your gap, know your man. Do your job.

Getting pressure on opposing QB.
Running T2 package more.

Short answer. A lot. Taking proper angles being another.

I still for the life of me don't understand why Jay Arnold is not starting at SDE. I understand he's on the depth chart at DT, but Stansbury is not the answer.
If we can sign Myles Garrett, the tandem of Hall and Garrett at rush end should allow us to move Julien back to his natural position at SDE.

Just finished watching the game again.
As tmc pointed out, the run defense was pretty good on the interior. We got burned on the misdirection plays and by missed assignments on the edge. Most other problems were sloppy tackling.
Arky did a very nice job throwing on 1st down. Brandon Allen was very efficient on those throws and those plays helped him get into a groove. We also need to do a better job not letting the QB roll out of the pocket.

Tackling ...
Particularly yards after catch.
Particularly yards after catch.

Agreed. On Arkansas' last score, Jenkins tried to make SportsCenter...and succeeded, but not in a good way.

I think defense made some significant progress this week. Arkansas broke a few tackles and bounced a few plays outside to rack up some rushing yardage on a few big plays.
Realistically, if the Ags had put out the same kind of run defense we had vs Rice, then Arkansas would have rushed for 400 on us. In terms of best rushing attacks we will face this year, I am not sure Arkansas isn't the best overall. If they aren't then they aren't far behind Bama. Hogs were physical. We have 2 of the 3 most physical running games behind us, only LSU is left.
Coverage was better but it didn't hurt that their QB wasn't great. Think their TE must have had 80+ on 3 receptions, this can be fixed.
Overall I was pretty encouraged by the defensive progress I saw.

Stansbury mostly fills his gap on run defense. He lacks any sort of first step which means he is not often shooting a gap or getting much pass rush, but he's a handful to move out of a gap. Arnold can and will be that guy. But sometimes he comes out too high or he takes too big of a step and bam, he's lost leverage and his gap. Jay has a much higher ceiling but when a guy gets moved out of his gap big plays happen.
Stansbury imo is a JAG. He needs to be replaced. But the fact that he isn't yet isn't really surprising. Simply put - you are putting way too much emphasis on talent when our bigger problems right now are assignment related. Hell 1/4 of the Pigs total yardage came on 4 plays when we quite simply blew the assignment and left no one on a receiver. We had at least 4 in the run game like that. We've got to get that cleaned up before worrying about who is going to make plays.
But....and I haven't watched the replay, but my first impression on Golden's game was very good. So good that you have to consider ways to get him on the field and imo that would be removing your weakest link on the line. OM may not be that game though bc I would think we'll see a lot more nickel/33 stack looks (meaning Hall and the Taylors prob see a lot of action anyway)

and btw for those starting to doubt Snyder...He took Deshazor aside at the half and told him to try to bait and jump the slant route on 3rd downs because Allen was locking in on it. Third play of the 2nd half - 3rd down slant route
Guy understands what is going on on levels most of us can't fathom. He knows exactly what every guy on the field should do. He just doesn't have the experience to get them all doing it just yet.

Pass rush. As this game evolves... nothing is more important defensively. Pass rush pass rush pass rush.

Snyder has worked miracles so far on defense, but he lacks the pure talent up front this year.
Would it have helped to have another year of Damontre Moore? Absolutely!
