our defense is a lot better than people think it is, thankfully this week will be the nation's wake up call.

DE- Jordan Allen/ Danielle Hunter- physical specimens who create a lot of havoc in the backfield but not many sacks. High motor guys

DT- Ego Ferguson- powerful guy. Very similar and at the same skill level as our recent DTs like Brockers or Logan

DT- Anthony Johnson- Monster who eats a lot of double teams and can track down RBs if they get away from him. Good at reading screens. He is playing pretty banged up though.

DE- Jermauria Rasco- just an overall solid DE does everything very well but nothing crazy good.

OLB- Kwon Alexander/Tahj Jones- Kwon has been out best LB last few games. Very good tackler and good in coverage. Was all over the field making tackles. I think against UAB he had a great open field tackle against an RB then the very next play had a pass breakup against a WR.

MLB- DJ Welter/ Kendall Beckwith- Welter his very hit or miss literally. Makes great tackles one play and is too slow and wiffs the next but he is our signal caller and that add value even though Beckwith may be a better LB.

OLB- Lamin Barrow- just an overall solid guy. Had over 100 tackles last year.

Overall front seven are a very good group. Dline although very talented, lacks depth and there is a drop off in production as the game progresses. LB has a lot of depth and talent but is very young and doesn't have much of an identity. LB corps has improved significantly every week though.

Jordan allen dont know that much about him, 4 star recruit I think but he is starting so he must be very good

ego ferguson 4/5 star recruit offers from everyone and his doing very well will be 1st second round pic in NFL, big mean and fast

anthony johnson aka the freak another 4/5 star recruit offers from everyone and his doing very well called the freak for his long long arms, may be banged up first round NFL pick for sure if stays healthy, big and fast

jermauria rasco <---- #59 another 4/5 star recruit offers from everyone and his doing very well will also play on Sunday and be early round pic, big and fast with great lateral pursuit

lbs:

Tahj Jones another 4/5 star recruit offers from everyone and his doing very well

Kwon Alexander another 4/5 star recruit offers from everyone and his doing very well, I yhink is the best of the group in talent with Barrow, will play on Sundays

DJ Welter May be the weakest of the group but showing improvement

Kendall Beckwith -another 4/5 star recruit that is very solid player great ball hawking skills can cover TE's and backs

Lamin Barrow-another 4/5 star recruit-may be the best in football mind and ability to be at right spots, played a ton last year

In sum they are the best front seven you will see this year unless you play Bama then it is a debate

Too bad most of them were 8 yards downfield, he needs to meet the back at the line of scrimmage before I say he's doing better.

That is so misleading. For both barrow and welter, they pile up their tackles from assists. Welter only had one solo on the night I think.

Deep rig, the blunt truth is except for kwon, our lb play has been disappointing. We lose contain on the edge a decent bit, and have been gashed right up the gut. The interior DL got pushed back some vs auburn, but to be fair, it was a wet field. Let's see them on dry ground.

What's the name of y'all's freshman Olb I kept hearing about in that game? Had like 2 sacks against NT? That dude is freakn good! Reminds me a lot of D Hunter for LSU! That's how god Hunter is!!

Leonard Floyd is the true freshman OLB. I don't know what his stats are in each game but you do hear his name called out more than you expect from a true freshman, and I know he has at least one sack outside of the N Tex game.

The skinny before I check on my shrimp jambalaya:

Y'all are gonna have trouble up front against our two-man wrecking krewe in Anthony "Freak" Johnson and Ego Ferguson. Freak has been a major talent from the day he stepped on campus and has performed well despite constant double teams; those double teams have freed up Ferguson to wreck havoc instead. Our ends -- Jermauria Rasco on one side, Jordan Allen on the other, with Danielle Hunter rotating in for Allen -- aren't world-beaters, but they're good enough to pressure the QB with our stud DTs.

If you get past them, though? We're in trouble. Our linebackers were expected to be the strength of the unit, but they've probably been the weakest point on the defense. Lamin Barrow is okay, but was expected to be the man and has clearly not stepped up to fill Minter's role. He's good with a dominant linebacker like Kevin Minter alongside him; we don't have a Minter back there right now. D.J. Welter has been the buttmonkey for all kinds of jokes; think like Auburn's Jake Holland, but not as bad. Kwon Alexander is the other guy, and he's got loads of talent, but he's still young and improving. Also have a couple of other good guys that rotate in.

Honestly I think you'll see our starting four DL and Barrow + Alexander the most though. We still like our nickel packages.

eta: I lied, not a skinny after all

According to the page 1 stats, Beckwith is significantly bigger, and at middle linebacker against the run, that's going to make him play better, all other things being equal.

ETA-
31 D.J. Welter 6-1 226 Jr.

Kind of small for MLB.

Beckwith is much much better than Welter he is just a true freshman and doesn't have Chavis' system down enough to play MLB.

Chavis typically likes smaller faster LBs than typical but Welter is just small not necessarily fast.

Our LBers have gotten better every game though and I don't see the trend stopping since LB is Chavis' specialty

What I'm getting from alot of yall is that the pass rush is good, but if UGA's OL gets a decent block scheme on the front 4 and lets Gurley through, it's going to be a bloodbath?

To be clear, that's not what I'm saying is going to happen, I don't know what's going to happen, this game makes me nervous. That's why I started the OP.

Is that accurate? I know where to find depth charts, I know the ones posted for UGA aren't accurate at all. I know rivals had two guys in the two deep that had torn ACL's.

According to Miles no serious injuries from Auburn game. All players are practicing this week.

We had two starters on the O-line go out of Auburn game. Both are supposed to ready.

no one is to unleash a bloodbath on lsu's defense. having said that, miles and chavis are very adept at picking their spots. the d will surrender yards, especially to an elite o like uga. but the odds of anyone repeatedly driving the length of the field and scoring td's while simultaneously stopping the o and st are very, very low. lsu is excellent on offense and st this season so, lsu balances all 3 phases of the game. another impressive improvement is that lsu has had little problem with 3rd and long this season.

Serious question: How did NTSU hold Gurley to 91 yds on 21 attempts? Did they load the box because obviously Murray got his yards passing...

LSU has recorded 400-plus yards of total offense in each of the first four games of a season for the first time in school history. The 1,921 yards are the most through the first four games of a season since the 1977 team had 1,950.

That, yes, and Gurley was playing hurt. He wasn't supposed to be in that game for 4 quarters, but two special teams malfunctions kept him in the game.

Beckwith will eventually be the starting Middle linebacker. He's 6'2 6'3 about 245-250ish. He will be what kevin minter was for us. He moves well laterally and seems to attack at the line of scrimmage.

By the way, 91 yards is decent. Not great, but decent.

I guess North Texas' defense is better than Bama's 2012 defense.
