Paying players WILL NOT fix the problem

Giving athletes a stipend will not fix the problem of under the table deals. How is a $600 or $700 a month allotment going to prevent a high profile recruit or a potential 1st round draft pick from taking cash? Would $600 have kept Cam Newton from taking $200K? Would giving JFF a few bucks up front kept him from taking 10 or 15 grand under the table? Paying college football players is not the answer. Maybe disassociating this level of football from universities all together is a better option. Just create basically a minor league system for the NFL and get it out of the university system completely.

That was a pretty nice and informative post. I think I'm gonna mail that to my local Senator, and see what he can do about those pesky NCAA characters.

You hit the nail on the head though...
Whatever players would end up getting paid, will always be exceeded by cheating boosters, insiders, agents, and athletic departments.
We pay $10,000 to players, agent will offer $20,000.
We pay $50,000 to players, agent will offer $75,000.

Why would I watch college kids play professional football when I can watch professional football players play professional football?
Also, this would kill the "must be in college for three years" rule for entering the NFL. Five star recruits will no longer play for the Crimson Tide Football Team. They'll get drafted in some supplemental draft and go to a year of training camp before joining a team.
Then if you're paying players, how do you legislate the contracts? I signed with Auburn, but we aren't running the offense I like any more, so Ohio State offered me more money than Florida, so now I'm joining Ohio State.
Further, what's to keep teams from signing players for longer than 4 years? Alabama likes TJ Yeldon. Let's sign him for a ten year contract.

No just make it not illegal for players to take money from boosters or what have u and that will pretty much fix everything.

Recruit takes $50,000 from Booster A, and then commits to school of Booster A. Then 3 weeks later Booster B offers $100,000 to recruit and recruit switches his commit to school of Booster B.
Booster A is upset that he wasted $50,000 on the recruit and demands money back.
Now imagine this happening all over the country. Eventually we get contracts. Then the government gets involved because they want to tax it. And it goes on, and on, and on.

Correct and I'll add that there's nothing that coaches and institutions can do to stop the bad athletes from doing bad things - at best, their influence & control is limited to discouraging, minimizing and forcing it to be covert. To have meaningful impact will require threat of serious, long-term impact on offending players individually with support and cooperation of the NFL. Could (or should) happen but I don't see it anytime soon since it's not in the NFL's interest to ban promising recruits even for, a year or more.
