I'll hold my final reservation until after Saturday's game, but it's amazing what a team can do with a "dual-threat" QB.
IIRC, Bo never completed a pass over 14-20 yards, and managed that offense to perfection. The quick slants, bubble screens, slip screens, drags, etc was all he needed to run that offense last night. The ability to run in today's game is huge. Vandy saw him keep it off the read play 10 times, and it was working better in the 4th Q than it was the 1st Q.
Tyler just can't do that. He doesn't give us that threat. Also, even Vandy's QB would move around in the pocket, avoid the pass rush and buy time until he found someone down field. Tyler doesn't give us that either.
I know Tyler deserves to start, but the leash better be a lot shorter and Dak should be given ample opportunity to prove himself this year.

You're wrong. Standing perfectly still and flat-footed in the pocket is way more effective.

I wasn't impressed with Bo's pocket presence; he seemed to get flustered by pressure. I was impressed by Ole Miss's willingness to keep running the same plays because they were working. Vandy never adjusted to the zone read, and that made the difference.
I'm not sure a dual threat guy is essential. What is essential is figuring out what is working and continuing to do it. The defense can't cover everything, so you need to figure out what they are giving you and take it.
I hope State will do that tomorrow.

THAT'S HOW FOOTBALL WAS PLAYED FOR OVER 100 YEARS. THIS NEW FANGLED MOBILE QUARTERBACK shite IS A FAD THAT WILL PASS.

I agree with all of that

I don't mind not having a mobile qb if he will move his damn feet and avoid being hit. Don't stand there like a tackling dummy.

That was I put quotations around dual-threat. I don't necessarily mean be able to run as good as you can throw, just be able to phucking move.

What I don't understand about defenses on the read option is why does the backside DE, when he is often unblocked, not just run full steam and knock the crap out the QB EVERY PLAY he gets a chance instead of holding up and trying to see who ends up with the ball. Heck, the Vandy backside DE last night constantly kept chasing after the RB when his responsibility should have been the QB anyway. If I'm a DC and you give me a chance to put a lick on your QB then that is what I'm going to do EVERY time. And I would do that not caring who ends up with the ball.

Yeah, I agree. I heard the commentators during a NFL game saying just that. They think that DE hitting the QB even when he doesn't have the ball on every zone read play will cut down on the number of those plays in a NFL game.

I hope Dan has a short leash on Tyler this year.
I'm 100% behind the Dak attack

C'mon, dude. Tyler is OUR QB. We'll see Dak some. If tyler gets hurt, we'll see Dak a lot.

Someone should tell Payton that mobile qb's are better. The real problem with our offense in Les mother fricking Kennings! I cannot stand him as an OC. Tyler is a really good qb IMO. I think Dak will be good also. Dak will get plenty of experience this year. Then 2014 should be a amazing year for us. Hopefully 2013 will be too!

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the assumption, because of something Mullen said after the Gator Bowl, that he would take over play calling this year. He was aware of the discontent a lot of people were having with Woody McKoenning calling the offense from the pressbox, especially after the atrocious performance against NW. Did I dream this or something?
