Are the new plans for Kyle field supposed to trap the noise and make it louder? Significantly louder? I would assume so.

I think the south end zone expansion will significantly decrease the noise loss in the stadium and the overhangs on the sideline stands will also help deflect sound down to the field.

im pretty sure that was a major point of the renovation. by closing some of the open gaps, lowering the field, eliminating the track, and adding the overhangs

I don't know if there is a specific decibel increase calculated, but let's be honest, it was loud as shite before, and it is only going to be louder. The elimination of the track and the 12th Man being that much closer to the opposing team alone is going to be a significant upgrade.

It was a significant part of the design. The overhang of the East stands is solely for keeping the volume in as it will provide almost no actual shade. It's not like they GAF about the Freshman and Sophomores on the upper 3rd Deck staying out of the sun anyway.

Another change is they moved part of the student section so that it is where the visitors enter so they can give them a proper welcome instead of having them enter into their own visiting section.

I like this.

So the stands will actually be closer to the field than before with the removal of the track? Am I understanding that correctly?

FWIW, I was told that the overhang was originally put there because there will be a media and coaches press box up there after renovations and they needed a way to keep the sun out of their eyes and not have a glare on the glass.
