nice pickup. Our staff was disappointed that he decided on UVA.

Oh well, let the kicker shitshow continue!

We have a punter from Australia already on campus, plus one of the top kickers (Hedlund) committed for next year.

ETA: Yours will probably have a better chance of making All SEC though, due to more playing time.

If it makes you feel any better... Currently Tennessee has the #1 kicker and #1 punter from a few years ago starting.. In Palardy and Darr - look how well that has turned out for us.

Australia? Pssshhh. We've got a Mexican punter. I'm pretty sure LaMonthe is spanish for "The Leg".

Also, he can mule in the really good deer antler spray.

ETA: fixed link

We signed the #2 & #4 kickers in the 2010 class and they both are horrible.

Kicker Rankings

Scout had them ranked as the #1 Kicker and #1 Punter

Nothing like a solid kicker.

This is one thing I don't understand about the recruiting services.

A kicker is actually a really important part of any team. So many games are won and lost on last second kicks, missed or blocked XP's, short legged KO's.

I don't get how the best kickers in the country are only worth an 80 ranking.

kickers score a lot more points, there are over 120 QB's ranked 80 or higher, half of those will never see the field on the D1 level. The 20 best kickers will be very important to their teams over the next few years.

Kickers see the field for maybe a couple of minutes out of the 60 minutes of a football game. It's true that bad special teams can cost you a close game, but if the game isn't close to begin with, say due to a suffocating defense or an overpowering offense, then who gives a shite about your kickoffs?

The kicker is like the setup man in baseball. Yeah, he's important, but a really good team can do without a good setup man.

Good set up man and shitty set up man is the difference in heading into the 9th with a 2 run lead or being 2 runs down.
