A full size facility would have to either take up one of the outdoor practice fields or be located a couple of miles away on South Milledge Avenue near the Softball/Soccer stadiums.

Tanyard Creek and the natural valley formed by it. The creek isn't drained; the water from it is still used to irrigate the field.

You could always build up when you run out of room to go out.

Exactly...as things are currently. What we SHOULD do is build a new Spec-Towns track complex (indoor and outdoor) on South Milledge and replace the current Spec-Towns, which is right beside the currently indoor stretching facility and practice fields, with a full size football IPF.

That would easily be the best idea, but I've no confidence our cheap-arse BOT will ever actually do it.
