It's funny, because you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Can't really say that I've ever partaken in cock fighting, so, yeah, you've got me there.

First off, those roosters are far from starved.

Fair enough; you're right I wouldn't really know. I apologize for dramatizing my post with adjectives. The chickens forced to fight to the death are not starved, but well fed and put out to stud on a daily basis.

I don't give a frick what your "definition" that you found says.

Why did you put the word "definition" in quotes? It's a definition from freedicitionary.com. Just because you disagree with the definition doesn't require you put it in scare quotes, as though it doesn't really exist.

But on to the actual subject of your post, the chickens might be (and, admittedly, are) gorgeous animals with a wonderful array of sub-breeds, but the mascot is not a specific sub-breed, but a "Gamecock" wearing spurs. While totally cool that it alludes to a figure from the revolutionary war, the point still stands that the symbol can be and is taken as a reference to cock fighting. Why is this so damn hard to accept?

Once again, it doesn't bother me. Keep on keeping on, Cocks. But can we at least call it what it is?

I guess people feel strongly about their unique state football team and the historical significance of its mascot.

To understand all this, you must understand the South Carolinian(difficult but doable). We are a fiery bunch man, started the Civil War for goodness sake. Much like a gamecock, if you will. I think it fits extremely well, whereas, bulldogs... idk maybe you can tell me why it fits besides the Yale history previously mentioned.
