And because his father played for Bear Bryant he is eligible for the Bryant Scholarship which follows these rules regarding counting against the 85 limit:
quote:
If the player was a recruited walk-on, a student-athlete who was recruited by Alabama's coaches and who receives the Bryant Scholarship, that player does not count against Alabama's scholarship numbers until he sees playing time.

Alabama offer was just too much to turn down for the local kid. He said it is a dream come true.

he will be a straight up take, maybe a greyshirt option depending on the numbers to give bama some wiggle room.

Yes that is true but I just don't get it I mean he's probably not getting on the field any time soon at bama so why not go to miss st and play right away? But if LSU gave me an offer I would commit right away even if no playing time was guaranteed lol so I guess I get why the kid did it

The kid lives in Tuscaloosa. As much as I hate to lose him I can't blame him for leaving. Hope he has success at Alabama.

What makes you think he would play right away at MSU? LB is arguably the most talented and deepest position on our team -- and we only likely lose one this year unless Wells/McKinney decide to come out early(doubtful).
Certainly sucks to lose him -- but this is one position where we have a little wiggle room overall...

What the frick is a bear Bryant scholarship? I really would love to see what the NCAA has to say about that rule.

What position group is better?
What other group has 2 players on the preseason watch list(McKinney and Skinner for the Butkus Award) -- meaning they are considered 2 of the top 51 overall linebackers in all of college football?
There are TWO SEC schools with multiple players on that list -- us and Alabama -- and they play an extra guy in that 3-4.
NVM that Wells may be the highest-drafted of the 3(safety/lb cover hybrid meant to match up against the new NFL tight end) -- and we've got Richie and Beniquez Brown, who both run in the 4.5 range @ >220lbs, waiting in the wings. Nevermind Zach Jackson and Ferlando Bohanna -- who are both solid.
We've got a logjam for reps at the LB position -- and there won't be much notable dropoff between the first and second strings either...

They have never had a problem with it in the past

What kind of shite is that?

Y'all gettin' trolled, brah.

The NCAA treats it similar to a walk-on on academic scholarship. If he's not a recruited athlete, he won't be a counter until he actually plays

So first Christian Miller and Second Keith Holcombe. I thought you were taking only two OLB this cycle? What about LC?
