Do you think freeze was the perfect hire?

I mean I don't think anyone can say that he wasn't a good hire (even the most blinded LSU fan cant say that) look at what he has accomplished in just little over a year but was there someone else you think that could of done a better job this far along in the rebuilding process except for maybe Saban?

Where would you rank Freeze on the list of Ole Miss coaches?

Last and final question... Do you think he will be able to hold on to this coaching staff or at least keep replacing them with proper candidates?

And I'm sorry for sp and grammar I'm having dinner with my girlfriend her mother and grandmother so I'm doing this on my phone trying to be secretive

Ask again in 2-3 years if he was the perfect hire. I live the guy but objectively we've only had 1 mediocre year under him

I think it's still too soon to rank him. He has shown great potential and I was happy when he was hired, but as UMR said, let's look again after 2-3 years.

Horrible choice. FAAAARRRR FREEEZZUUUSSS!!!1!1!1

In all seriousness, from an outsiders perspective he seems like a really good fit. I like his no bullshite approach and how he doesn't sugar coat things even for the media. He's obviously recruiting well. It may to be too early to call but thus far I think it's a very good hire IMO.

Tubberville-did a decent job at Ole Miss

DC-was horrible at recruiting

Coach O-great recruiter but just was not the guy to run the show.

Houston Nutt-walked in to a bunch of talent. I think his biggest issue was that Ole Miss was always that "other girl". The girl you get with because you know your girl is about to dump you. You never fall in love with the other girl.

Coach Freeze-you couldn't ask for much more in year one. I just hope fans are willing to give the guy time. We are not there as a team depth wise yet. Most were predicting 4 to 5 wins last year. We overachieved. So if we win only 6 or 7 this year people cant start calling for his head.

Coach Kiffin is going to start getting some DC looks. He is too great of a recruiter to not get a look at some schools. I think keeping Paul Jackson is the biggest need.

Great hire for Ole Miss. Had a couple questionable calls last year notably the 4th and 1 against aTm but he is a hell of a recruiter and players love playing for him.

From my point of view Freeze was a needed hire that was a welcome departure from Nutt. He is proving he can recruit and bring energy to the program and team. It's apparent the team has bought into his philosophy. Obviously time will tell on the overall hire, but it looks promising.

It is difficult for any HC to hold onto his staff for a long period of time. Either they are really good and move on, or they are really bad and fired(you hope). I believe you can expect competent replacements.

I think the biggest thing for Ole Miss fans for this season is going to be accept that the first half of your season is going to be incredibly tough and you could certainly notch more losses than wins during that stretch. That mid-September to mid-October stretch on the road with Texas, Alabama, Auburn, then LSU and A&M at home back to back is one of the tougher ones I've seen in awhile.

You could potentially go 5 for 5 in the back half of the season.

This is crucial for Ole Miss to see success. Orgeron brought in talent but didn't know how to coach. Nutt inherited some good players and it showed with back to back 9 win seasons but Nutt couldn't recruit we saw the decline.

The program needed a spark, something to give the players and fans energy to get behind the program and support them. Freeze did a great job of this and is only continuing to improve.

I think all of us on here realize that, but you know there will be fans that are raising hell if we start out something like 2-4, which is entirely possible. The Vandy game is huge this year.

I can't agree with this more.

Everyone knows I'm expecting more wins this season. I have made this obvious in other threads. But I won't be mad or pissed or calling for heads at 6-6.

But the Vandy game will be very telling this year. If we lose i will instantly tone back expectations. If we win. .....well hell if we win ill be calling for more haha

I agree with the 2-3 years thing but to call last year mediocre would be inaccurate. Sure, the record was a mediocre record, but to do what he did in that first year was phenomenal. If you had told people that any coach would be able to come in and win 7, they would have laughed at you.

Had this discussion with a buddy the other day... We were so thin and young at every position... People say "You only won 7 and you didnt beat anyone!" I honestly don't think Saban or Spurrier (2 GOAT imho) could've taken that piping hot , shite sandwich Houston Nutt left in Oxford and found a way to win 8... Hell, Saban might have thrown his hands up in the air and stormed off the practice field never to return by midSeptember.

People that don't see the good that Freeze did in 2012 is just trolling, or has no clue about football period.

Mediocre is mediocre in my book. Yeah we won 7 games when we were picked to win 3-4 but I doubt anybody had auburn going 0-8 in the SEC or Ark going 5-7 overall.

I think freeze has done an amazing job and definitely has us on the right path. I'm certainly not taking anything away from him. I still need to see us close out meaningful games such as A&M and Vandy (not state) tho.

Absolutely and having high expectations of your coach and team is the right thing. However, when you look at what took place in its entirety and Freeze seems to be doing it right. Rebuild confidence and accountability of team. Coach the players up on fundamentals. Inject enthusiasm, pride, desire to succeed. Basically build a solid foundation.

He then went out and got a highly ranked recruiting class and is continuing to court top talent. This will allow him to build depth which was already noted will help maintain the intensity throughout the entire game. Freeze by all accounts looks to be a very good coach. He at least understands how to build up a program. He looks to have the intangibles and knows how to teach the game. He did a fine job last year and has your program going in the right direction. Now sustaining that is what some coaches have difficulties with. That is what remains to be seen. If I'm you I can feel good about what Freeze is doing at Ole Miss, but continue to hold him to high standards.

Final note this is a tougher conference than at any other time that I can remember. Vandy is not the Vandy of yesteryear, and aTm has a Heisman QB. So those losses are nothing to get down about other than I hate losing.

I agree with this although i expect us to really demolish Vandy. I have high expectation for us on that game but for tyhe rest of the season I think it will be hard to sneak up on the LSU's and ATMS like we did last year. That being said I think Freeze will have us ready for Vandy.

Talked to Dmagic about that last night... We both like the idea of not having a scrimmage after "Meet The Rebels" ... We've got a conference road game coming up... That supersedes playing a half speed game for the fans... Hell, Freeze had us ready to beat them last year and become bowl eligible with 2 more games left on the schedule, our team just ran out of gas cause we couldn't sub any players in the secondary... We had zero depth.

Spot on Rocky

Y'all know how I feel about Freeze but if we as a fanbase can maintain our expectations to a reasonable levels and allow him the time to build the program.

HE WILL PUT US IN A POSITION TO COMPETE, IMO.

It might mean we have to go through some growing pains, i.e. the 4 & 1's, closing out games, going 6-6 with a better team, etc., but in the end I do believe Freeze as the ability, given the right tools, to be able to succeed as an SEC Head Coach. As well as being able to bring our program and our school back into the spotlight.
