"That, and the minister told us all how we should vote one Sunday"

Although I'm pretty conservative on most political issues, this also irritates me very much. The corporate Church needs to focus on improving itself and its members and making extra sure what they are teaching and promoting is Biblically sound rather than railing against sinful activity in the country at large. That's what I find offensive about the Religious Right political movement. Churches shouldn't be involved in politics anyway. After all, Jesus said go therefore and make disciples...............". He didn't say go out there and become politically active and crusade against sin or sinful laws out in the world. At some point in the 20th century, the Church (especially the Baptist Church) lost sight of its true mission to "make disciples" and instead divided much of their time to various self righteous, political crusades which has caused them to lose their true mission and the Church as a whole has suffered for it.

I do love how when the religious right started to become more politically aware and active in the 80s all of the sudden this was a dire threat to the Republic in the media. Hell, if you listened to the NY Times or CNN a Baptist with a Bible is more of a threat to America than a terrorist with a car bomb. But you never heard a peep from the media when the left-wing religious groups sounded off on an issue.
