Why was Fran able to win at Bama and couldn't at A&M?

He improved Bama from 7-5 to 10-2 and actually won the west (we were on probation and couldn't go to Atlanta of course). He beat Saban 31-0 that second year as well.

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to why though, other than the obvious, that Bama is Bama and they're just A&M.

Hell, he even laid the groundwork and made the second best team in Texas a national power. But yet you hear A&M fans say he was the worst coach ever. Hmmm.

Fran was to TAMU, what Curley Hallman was to LSU.

Not a players' coach.

Horrible recruiter.

Ran the option TO. DEATH.

Responsible for some of the worst/most embarrassing losses in school history, including getting drubbed at home by iowa state, getting raped 77-0 (should have been worse) by OU, and losing to baylor.

Because Bama is awesome, A&M a fluke.

Only a real dumbass can't win at Bama. I know we've had a few, but Bama has all the right ingredients.

Mike Sherman did this. Not Fran.

He was under a lot of scrutiny and pressure at Bama to win, in spite of the circumstances. Made him work harder. Saw A&M as a big payday and slacked off.

A&M didnt hold the rope.

I think Fran out smarted himself,he became too much PR and not enough coach.Hireing Writer Mike was a bad idea.

Saban lost to TAMU at Bama. I wouldn't consider him a dumbass.

Two years is a very small sample size, especially considering none of the guys playing were his.

Also wouldn't call those two years "winning"
He was 17-8, and did not beat one team that finished ranked.

Aggies would have been glad to give him back.

He was the worst Coach ever at A&M and the program still hasn't fully recovered from all the damage he did.

He had a talent for pissing off HS Coaches. He cost A&M a lot of recruits.

Unfortunately he was decent at beating Texas which prolonged his tenure.

This is EXTREMELY key to Franchione's limited success at Alabama. Despite all his flaws, Mike Dubose reeled in some great recruiting classes and left Franchione with a full cupboard. Fran was a terrible recruiter and had he stayed at Alabama, he would have done no better than Shula.

He clearly ate fewer Little Debbies whilst at Bama. Dude must have used his signing bonus at A&M for some truckload of goodies delivered to his house.

They chose to pay Fulmer in cash instead of Krispy Kreme gift certificates.

I guess he felt insulted.
