I know the sack record is considered to belong to Derrick Thomas with his absurd 27.5 or whatever. But I've also heard that's unofficial and not true.

If this is the case what is the official and how many did DT really have?

Also who believes Jadeveon "Peterbilt" Clowney has a chance of breaking it.

DT's sack numbers are legit. It was not a recognized NCAA Stat at the time he played. That's why in the SEC stat records you see an per date and post date for many stats that are "new" in a sense.

Clowney has no chance at breaking DT's record. I doubt he breaks any records and doesn't lead the SEC this year in sacks. He takes off too many plays and teams will scheme against him

Clowney is scared of Derrick Thomas' ghost.

24 – Terrell Suggs, Arizona State, 2002

Sacks weren't an official stat until 2000.

No way. If he was in his prime, maybe, but he's not going to hit his prime for several more years. Probably 2-3 years in his NFL career.

Clowney takes too many plays off, mentally and physically to touch the record.

He should worry about leading the SEC for a season, before he worries about records.

I thought David Pollack holds the single season SEC sack record at 22?

At first thought that number seems unbreakable but given Clowney may have 2-3 extra games than DT had its possible. Its only a little over 2 sacks a game.
